Big tractors, old and new, to converge at Wimmera field days

Big Bud to make an appearance at Victoria’s leading farm trade show

If you’re a fan of big tractors or large farming equipment in general, this is your cue to make your way to Longerenong, Victoria, next week for the 61st edition of the Wimmera Machinery Field Days, where the theme this year is "The Year of Big Tractors".

The annual event will be held at its purpose-built site at the Wimmera Events Centre from March 4 to 6, 2025.

The show’s committee decided on the “Big Tractor” theme for this year’s show following last year’s 60th anniversary event where it featured a series of 60-year-old machinery, according to the Weekly Advertiser.

The committee members set out in search of some big tractors around the country and the world, and have successfully secured some special “guests” at the show that are certain to thrill visitors.

Among the tractors said to make an appearance at the show is none other than the world’s largest tractor, the American Big Bud, which could offer up to 1100hp of power and weigh up to 61 tonnes.

The Big Bud is the world's biggest tractor and is set to descend upon Wimmera

Other models secured for the show include an Australian-built Waltanna 4WD tractor, an Agco tractor with triple wheels, a Ford County and some Steigers.

However, it isn’t just the vintage machinery that will be hogging the spotlight, as some newly released big tractors such as the Case IH 715 Steiger Quadtrac with 715hp and the CLAAS XERION 12 with a maximum output of 653hp will also be displayed at the show.

Through the displays, visitors will be able to see just how far farm machinery design and technology has come over the decades, and be excited for what may come next.

The field days also serves as a platform for exhibitors to debut their new products, from tractors to a wide range of agtech and from header fronts to mother bins.

Some exciting debuts at the show include Valtra’s high-horsepower 6th-generation S-series tractors and Fendt’s award-winning 600 Vario tractors.

Family friendly

While the adults kick tyres and marvel at the impressive array of machinery on display, the little ones can look forward to a series of programs and attractions to keep them entertained.

This year, Wimmera Field Days has invited two special guests – Chase and Marshall from hit children TV show, Paw Patrol, to make an appearance, meet the little ones and put on a show on Wednesday March 5.

In addition, there will be a mobile animal farm where children can see and pet some cute animals; and exciting games such as laser tag to keep them occupied.

The Field Days Exhibitor and Product awards will once again be presented to businesses with the best sites and products this year, with the awards to be handed out on Wednesday, March 5.

Other family friendly programs include fashion parades, cooking demonstrations and wildlife demonstrations.
