Bobcat UV34 2026 Review

Built to work hard between a quad bike and a ute, but does the UV34 back up its no-nonsense reputation?

Overview

On paper, every UTV claims it can work hard. But when you're hauling tools, towing gear and crossing rough ground all day, that's when the truth comes out.

The Bobcat UV34 is pitched squarely at operators who need something more capable than a quad bike but don't want the bulk or cost of a full-sized ute.

Bobcat offers the UV34 in two configurations — the standard UV34 and the longer UV34 XL. Same platform, same powertrain, but the XL stretches out to seat up to six people when you need the extra capacity. For most working properties, the standard UV34 will be the one to consider.

Bobcat's reputation is built on worksite durability, and the UV34 carries that same no-nonsense philosophy from the cab to the cargo tray.

Engine and performance

Under the tray sits a Tier 4 three-cylinder diesel engine pushing out 24.5 horsepower. It's not a big number, but it's a purposeful one tuned for sustained work rather than outright pace.

In practice the engine pulls without complaint. Whether crawling through soft ground, climbing an incline with a loaded tray, or running at a steady clip across a paddock, it delivers consistent, dependable power.

Because it sits under 25hp, there's no diesel particulate filter (DPF) required, meaning no regeneration cycles, no added complexity, and simplified maintenance as a result.

Drive options cover high and low range, plus on-demand all-wheel drive when the surface gets soft or uneven. Top speed is a capable 56.3 km/h — more than enough to get around a property in decent time.

Cab and controls

The UV34's cab is one of its strongest selling points, because flexibility is built in from the start. You can run it open for airflow and situational awareness, or fully enclosed with doors and a windscreen when dust, rain or heat becomes an issue. For Australian conditions, that adaptability is genuinely useful.

Seating is a three-across layout with decent legroom for a machine of this size. Controls are simple and mechanical — tilt steering, power steering assist, and a clear range selector. It's not flashy, but every input does exactly what you expect.

In-cab storage and charging ports round out the operator environment. For further customisation, operators can add options such as lockable tool boxes, specialised racks and more. The UV34 doesn't scream luxury, but it's a functional workspace that keeps the operator comfortable and focused on the task.

Cargo and towing

Out back, the cargo tray offers a 567-kilogram payload — a meaningful figure for anyone moving feed, fencing gear, firewood or tools around a property. The tray dumps manually via a side lever as standard, with a hydraulic lift available as an option for those who want added convenience.

Towing capacity sits at just over one tonne through a two-inch receiver hitch, covering trailers, small implements and general gear movement. Total rated capacity for the UV34 is 862 kilograms, factoring in both passengers and cargo.

For operators working between tasks throughout the day, those numbers translate into fewer trips and more ground covered.

Drive experience

Behind the wheel, the UV34 is straightforward to operate though the gear selector feels a touch clunky and takes some getting used to before it feels natural. Once you're moving, however, things settle down quickly.

The UV34 offers three selectable drive modes via a push-button switch from the cab. Turf (single-wheel) mode lets the wheels turn at different speeds to minimise ground disturbance — useful on lawns, irrigated paddocks or any surface where you want to avoid tearing up turf. Two-wheel drive covers most standard property tasks, while full AWD is there when the going gets soft, steep or slippery. Switching between two-wheel and AWD on the fly takes nothing more than a single button press.

The CVT transmission runs a P-R-N-L-H gate, with low range delivering maximum torque for towing heavy loads or working on grades, and high range covering faster travel on harder ground up to 56km/h.

Our test conditions were relatively flat, so there wasn't a lot of hill work to really stress the drivetrain, but point-to-point the UV34 does a decent job.

Throttle response is smooth, and the dynamic braking system makes for intuitive operation: press the pedal to accelerate or reverse, lift it off and the machine slows and stops.

It's the kind of behaviour that makes a working vehicle easy to jump in and out of across a full day, and the low-effort power steering keeps control light and responsive even with a loaded tray.

Suspension and ride

The UV34 runs independent front and rear suspension with a heavy-duty rear sway bar that absorbs uneven ground without transferring that movement into the cab or unsettling the load, keeping the machine stable when towing or carrying weight.

We loaded a sprayer into the tray and even with that weight on board, the UV34 felt composed. The suspension can also be adjusted to suit the demands of the job, improving load-carrying capacity for maximum towing and hauling performance which is useful for operators whose days involve a range of different tasks.

Our testing ground didn't offer much varied terrain to fully judge the suspension, but whatever bumps it encountered it handled with ease. Ground clearance sits at 296mm with a turning radius of 2794mm, both practical figures for paddock use, tight gates and working around sheds.

Maintenance-free suspension joints also mean fewer grease points and less time spent on routine servicing.

Verdict

If you need something that sits between a quad bike and a ute — with proper payload and towing capability — the UV34 makes a strong case for itself. It's not overloaded with tech, not complicated to operate, and is built by a brand with a long track record on the worksite.

The three-across seating, flexible open or enclosed cab, and a cargo tray that handles real working loads make the UV34 a practical choice for mixed farming, rural property management or any operation that demands a dependable do-it-all UTV.

The UV34 is available now in Australia. For operators who value durability and function over novelty, it warrants a serious look.
