Workplace health and safety (WHS) information publisher Pro-Visual Publishing has released its latest farm safety guide for 2016-17, focusing on broadacre and grain growing operations.
The Broadacre Guide to Farm Safety 2016/17 features the most up-to-date information on WHS regulations, as well as some general tips on staying safe around machinery and tools.
Some of the topics covered in the guide include chemical safety, tractor safety, quad safety, electrical safety, and farm workshop safety.
"As at June 22, 76 Australian workers have been killed at work this year alone, and the agricultural industry is one of the contributing industries to this alarming statistic," says Pro-Visual Publishing marketing manager, Deanna Davenport.
"While other industries share some of the hazards of farming such as plant, chemicals, noise, sun exposure and working with animals, the combination of hazards found in farming as well as the context in which farm work is done, makes it one of the most dangerous industries in which to work.
"It is essential that workers are aware of the health and safety risks they are exposed to in the farming industry. With the Broadacre Guide to Farm Safety 2016/17 displayed, workers will feel comfortable knowing they have essential, relevant and up-to-date information at hand to refer to when needed."
The new Broadacre Guide to Farm Safety chart features Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities, which allows farmers or workers with smart devices to scan the chart and obtain additional information on a certain topic using the Pro-Vis AR app.
The guide is distributed free of charge to grain growers around the country, with the help of industry sponsors.
