Celebrate National Ag Day

Bake a lamington, join an Ag Day event or simply show your appreciation for Aussie farmers via social media this Friday, November 20

This year has been a harrowing year without a shred of a doubt, but through it all, our farmers have had our backs by working hard throughout the pandemic to feed our country.

Farmers have had a rough few years battling droughts, bushfires and now a pandemic but they have stuck it out to continue putting food on everyone’s tables.

Here is your chance to give back or show appreciation for Aussie farmers by celebrating National Agriculture Day this Friday, November 20, 2020.

Farmers have battled droughts, devastating bushfires and now a pandemic to continue putting food on Aussie's tables

“COVID-19 has highlighted how lucky we are to have a strong and vibrant agriculture industry driven by our farmers,” said National Farmers Federation (NFF) President, Fiona Simson.

“Despite coming off one of the worst droughts on record, coupled with bushfires and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our farmers have continued to have our backs, producing food and fibre and keeping our supermarket shelves stacked.

“Now, farmers and the bush are working harder than ever to put Australia back on the road to recovery, creating jobs and supercharging the economy.”

Simson said the fourth annual National Agriculture Day promised to be a little different to previous years, but the message remained the same: our farmers are worth celebrating and no matter where you are on AgDay, Friday 20 November, there are many ways to get involved.

How to get involved

Attend a registered AgDay event or host your own

Keep it local this AgDay, fold out the picnic table and chairs and raise cheers to all that is good about Australian agriculture and the people behind it.

Official registrations for events have closed but it doesn’t mean you can’t host your very own family BBQ and say your thanks to farmers who have kept your bellies full.

Join the AgDay Bake Off

Put your baking skills to good use and whip up a smashing lamington for your chance to be crowned 2020 AgDay Bake Off Champion.

During COVID-19 lockdown, Aussies have honed their baking skills.

Why not take this opportunity to put your skills to good use by whipping up an Aussie classic, the lamington? To make it easier for you, here’s a recipe you can follow.

Post your efforts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with the #AgDayAU hashtag for the chance to be crowned the 2020 AgDay Bake Off Champion.

Buy some merch

Show some love to farmers by purchasing merchandise from a limited release “I Love Farmers” collection that features a cap, a T-shirt, a sticker, an apron and a tote bag.

All profits will go towards AgDay and other initiatives to better connect Australians with those who provide us with food and fibre.

Show your appreciation via social media

Write a thank you message, get the kids involved in drawing a picture showing their gratitude, or share existing posts with the #AgDayAU hashtag on all key social media channels.

Share or create your own posts on social media showing your gratitude for Aussie farmers in conjunction with National Ag Day.

Spread the word about the hard work our farmers have put in to produce food for us all, and tell them how much you appreciate them.

According to research conducted by the NFF, 63 per cent of Australians feel some level of disconnect with agriculture.

“A symptom of this disconnect was the COVID-induced panic buying we saw at the start of the pandemic,” NFF President, Fiona Simson said.

“Many shoppers stockpiled food, seemingly unaware of our nation’s food production capacity: every year our farmers produce two thirds more than our population can consume.

“Through initiatives such as AgDay, the NFF is committed to closing the gap between city and country.”
