The name Chamberlain might evoke plenty of nostalgia, especially among the older generation of farmers in Australia.
In the mid-1900’s pre WWII, the Chamberlain family expressed their desire to produce a tractor that will suit the needs of Australian farmers, but it wasn’t until after the war that the dream became a reality.
A mechanical engineer by trade, Alan Hawker (Bob) Chamberlain spearheaded the family’s efforts in becoming a prominent manufacturer of farm machinery in Australia. Pre WWII, Bob came up with prototype tractors suited to the conditions of Australian broadacre farming, before everything came to a crashing halt when WWII descended.
After the War ended, agricultural production massively expanded due to the amount of servicewomen and servicemen relocating to rural parts of Australia, as well as the need for the country to be more independent when it comes to food production.

Imported tractors back then were scarce and very expensive, prompting a real need for the Government to look into local production of farm machinery.
In 1946, the Federal Government struck a deal with Chamberlain to allow an ex-munitions factory located in Welshpool, WA, to be used to manufacture tractors.
In 1949, the first Chamberlain tractor rolled off the factory floor.
Over the next 30 odd years, Chamberlain Industries enjoyed a great amount of success with its range of iconic tractors, more notably the diesel-powered Champion models and the race model “Tail End Charlie” that is capable of a remarkable 110km/h road speed.
Chamberlain was perhaps most well-known for its orange tractors with green decal, but also produced tractors of different colours, including yellow like this 4080 for sale, and the iconic John Deere green and yellow in its later years, following an acquisition by the US giant in the early 1980s.
Unfortunately, due to declining demand in the late 1980s, Chamberlain tractors ceased production. It was estimated that the company produced a commendable 40,000 tractors over its lifetime.

It is unsure which year of production this 4080 model for sale was, but is believed to have been between 1975 and 1985.
Despite its age, it has only done 3321 hours and is in fair condition. It comes complete with rear linkage arms with a post hole digger and two augers. It also features a John Deere 6-cylinder engine with an output of 85hp.
Whether you’re after a very affordable rig to do some basic work on the farm, or you’re just a vintage tractor aficionado looking to add to your collection, this is the perfect opportunity for you to nab a bargain.
