Classifieds spotlight: Combine harvesters for sale

Are you prepared for harvesting season?

According to multiple reliable sources (ABARES, ANZ Agri etc), Australian farmers should be expecting a bumper harvest ahead following some good rainfall after long periods of drought and failed crops in recent years.

It is crucial, therefore, that farmers are well prepared for the season ahead and be well equipped with all the machinery and storage solutions they need.

This week, we picked six combine harvesters to suit different budgets and requirements. Thanks to the Government’s generous Temporary Full Expensing scheme announced recently as part of Budget 2020, farmers can write off the purchase of their new combines, no limit applied. However, note that the machines need to be new and not used.

1986 Laverda 3900

laverda3900

Location: NSW

Condition: Used

Hours: 2900

Price: $16,500 (excluding government charges)

This is your chance to own a piece of history and snag a discontinued combine model for a very affordable price.

The name might not be familiar but Laverda was a prominent manufacturer of harvesting machines back in the days. About 10 years ago, the company was sold to AGCO- parent company of brands such as Fendt, Massey Ferguson and Gleaner. Its facility in Breganze, Italy, became AGCO’s European Harvesting Centre of Excellence, where its combines across different brands are still being churned out to this day.

While this machine for sale may be over 30 years old, it looks to be in great condition. With a grain tank capacity of about 7000 litres, the machine would suit buyers with 500 to 1500 acres of crop, according to the seller.

It features a 30ft bat reel front-on comb trailer and had its sieves, drum bearings, rear axle bearings, back tyres, bubble auger, main drive belts and chains updated in the last few years.

“This header was ahead of its time with most functions being electric over hydraulic,” the seller, Andrew Bucknell said.

Bucknell said he is only letting go of the harvester because he has upgraded to a new one. He added the machine is very fuel efficient, with all maintenance kept up to date.

2018 Gleaner S98

gleaners98

Location: NSW

Condition: Near New

Hours: 250

Price: $418,000 (drive away)

Gleaner is another brand under AGCO which has dedicated its entire existence to manufacturing combine harvesters. In fact, the company has been manufacturing combines since the 1920s, so you know the company is well versed in the harvesting segment.

Gleaner has always been ahead of the times with its innovations. It was the first manufacturer to fit an auger to replace canvas drapers. It was also the first to use a rasp bar threshing cylinder instead of a spike-tooth arrangement, and a down-front cylinder that put threshing closer to the crop.

In 1972, Gleaner was the first manufacturer to use electro-hydraulic controls, an innovation that other companies didn't offer until nearly two decades later.

Up for sale is one of Gleaners newest releases, the S9 series. The S98 is the range topping unit with an AGCO Power 9.8-litre engine offering 430hp and a 13,743-litre capacity bin.

Some of the new features in the S9 range include a larger and redesigned cab, a new control terminal, an improved feeder house, and revised drive electronics and drive mechanics to cut harvesting times.

The model for sale has only done 360 demo hours which means it is effectively a brand new machine which hasn’t been put through the wringer yet.

Location: QLD

Condition: Used

Hours: 1320

Price: $459,000 (excluding government charges)

New Holland’s CR combine series broke two world records in the past decade, and that says a lot about the efficiency of the range. In 2014, New Holland’s CR10.90 model set a new world record by harvesting a whopping 798-tonnes of wheat in just eight hours; and in 2017, its CR8.90 model claimed another world record for 'Most Soybean Harvested in Eight Hours'.

This Class 10 CR10.90 model for sale sits at the top of New Holland’s combine range and has an output of 600hp. It has done 1320 hours of work, is in immaculate condition and has only had one owner operator.

Some of its features include a DFR feeder house, positive straw discharge with excellent straw windrowing capabilities, factory installed engine driven air compressor, adjustable rotor cover veins, engine manifold blowoff kit, Iveco 6-cylinder 16-litre tier 4B motor, 1.7m auger extension, remote folding grain tank lids, Trimble mapping and more.

The machine is located in Emerald, Queensland, and the seller welcomes inspections.

John Deere is another manufacturer that has invested heart and soul into its range of combines, with its more recent S700 series and X series harvesters offering advanced automation settings as well as industry leading capacities.

The heart of this John Deere 9770 STS for sale is the Single Tine Separator (STS) where grain is threshed and then differentiated from material other than grain. The grain will then fall onto the cleaning shoe area for additional separation.

This model will be offered with a 42ft Midwest header and comb trailer and has been recently serviced, ready to go straight to work this harvest.
