In 2022, Brazilian farmer and New Holland customer, Fernando Dalmolin, was hit by a falling tree trunk and spent 60 days in hospital. He had surgery but unfortunately had a serious infection which led to him becoming paraplegic.
Determined to continue his work in the field, Fernando accepted CNH Industrial's invitation to get involved with the development and release of what CNH claims to be the world's first accessible tractor, the New Holland TL5 Acessível.
Produced in Curitiba, Brazil, the TL5 Acessível was created in partnership with the inclusive mobility companies, Elevittá, Arteprima and Senai from São Leopoldo (state of Rio Grande do Sul).
A key feature of the tractor is an operator platform that can be lowered and lifted from the ground to carry the operator safely from their wheelchair into the tractor cab.
The controls have also been designed so that the tractor can be controlled fully just with hand movements. Operators who have mobility in their lower limbs have the option to utilise both hands and feet to control the tractor.
The tractor models are currently only on offer in Brazil and range from 80 to 100hp.
“This is just what people with disabilities like mine need to be able to work independently in the field,” Fernando said.
“I am very happy and excited to be a part of this ground-breaking project.”
A recent health survey in Brazil reported that there are 7.8 million people with lower limb disabilities in the South American country. As many of these people live in rural communities, this tractor could be a game changer, especially for those who work the land, New Holland said.
“With the launch of this accessible tractor, we want to empower people,” said Director of Commercial Marketing for New Holland Agriculture Latin America, Paulo Máximo.
“It is not just a question of making new technology available in the agricultural machinery market, but also enabling people with disabilities to carry out their occupations with independence.”
