Coolamon releases compact spreader

Newest member of spreader line-up caters to smaller farming operations

Local ag implement manufacturer, Coolamon Chaser Bins, has extended its product line-up to include a compact spreader model that is ideal for work on smaller operations such as horticulture, dairy and livestock farms.

Ranging in length from 2.8m to 3.8m, the hopper is designed with a low height to enable loading with smaller equipment and running on smaller wheel options.

Powder coated with a zinc primer, the spreader has a 1m wide cleated belt with polyurethane skirts, a heavy-duty roll over tarp, single axle adjustable out to 3m and flotation tyres as standard.

The spreader features one-piece sidewalls and 6mm ends with bevelled corners.

There are three different size hoppers to choose from- 5500 litres, 7000 litres and 8500 litres.

Farmers can customise their machine with the extra options of weight scales, side delivery hydraulic conveyer, stainless steel hoppers, brakes, mudguards, orchard deflectors, light pack and camera pack.

Coolamon Spreaders WA and SA state sales manager, Preston Grigg, said the compact spreader was customer driven and offers many of the benefits of its bigger brothers.

“Not everybody needs a broadacre spreader and these are ideal for horticulturalists, dairies and livestock operators,” he said.

“It is fully hydraulic using the tractor remotes.”

The spreader features the Hazelton patented variable sized cones with bolt-on spinner blades.

“The variable sized cones combined with the spread pattern and width is what puts these spreaders apart from the rest,” Grigg said.

“Our spreaders are the only ones in the world with variable sized cones, vastly improving the timing of product as it leaves the machine.”

The Coolamon Compact Spreader is ideal for granulated products such as lime, gypsum, potash, urea, poultry manure, feedlot waste and superphosphate.

Running on a proven bearing system, the spinners are polyurethane with rounded backs, creating a negative pressure at the centre of the disc and pulling the product into the middle before throwing it out.

“Regardless of the product density, there is no need to change the rear spinner assembly to accommodate it,” Grigg said.

“The variable sized cones are changed in a few seconds to customise the rear of the machine to suit any product.

“The one metre wide cleated belt coupled with the open design of the steer assembly means manure or lime is not being pushed through small holes potentially creating blockages.”

Grigg said customers were pleased with the fact there are minimal changes to be made to the machine when changing from product to product.

“No tools are required to make the changes when spreading product to product – it’s a matter of shifting the patented rings on the back of the spreaders,” he said.

“They also appreciate the solid construction and the fact the machine is made in Australia for Australian conditions by a respected manufacturer.”

The compact spreader is powered by a regular tractor remote circuit and operated via a stand-alone Farmscan Jackal rate controller.

The Farmscan Jackal spread rate controller is a GPS compatible system providing manual operation or fully automatic rate map control.

All functions are easy to read on the 4.8-inch colour graphic touch display with simple functions and a smart warning system to alert the operator on critical conditions.

Product rates and spread widths can be manually increased or decreased in pre-defined steps, and bins can be switched off or reduced to half rate to save wastage on poor soils or headlands.

When operating with GPS control, the Jackal adjusts rates automatically according to the prescription rate map on the USB device.

The Coolamon Compact Spreader range can carry from 6.9 to 10.6 tonnes of lime, and from 4.2 to 10.6 tonnes of urea.

Grigg said the spreader has a self-cleaning hopper design.

“We will have the Coolamon Compact Spreader at all national field days across Australia this year and there will also be demonstration days held.

“Contact Coolamon or your dealer to fulfill your requirements for early autumn programs.”
