The WEED-IT system has been available in Australia through distributor Croplands on self-propelled and trailing sprayers and now, it is also available in a three-point linkage version.
The sprayer was designed at Cropland’s facility in South Australia to suit row crop operations.
“Over the past eight years, most WEED-IT platform developments have focused on trailing sprayers and smaller tool bars,” said Croplands Portfolio Manager, Steve Norton.
“Now we work more towards adapting a sensor platform that better suits row crop environments.”
The three-point linkage sprayer is available with boom widths of 12m or 24m.
“Quadro sensors are fitted every metre across the boom with the first sensor placed on centre, which is ideal for row cropping,” Norton says.
The Croplands WEED-IT three-point linkage sprayer comes with a 500-litre or 1600-litre product tank, along with a slew of other convenient features such as hydraulic lift, separate hand wash tank, and flush tank for rinsing nozzles and boom lines.
Originally hailing from the Netherlands, WEED-IT has been changing the spraying game for over two decades. The technology uses advanced sensors to detect chlorophyll in actively growing weeds in fallow fields to help sprayers target spray weeds, hence saving farmers both time and money.
In 2019, an upgrade was announced – the WEED-IT Quadro which the company says offers significant efficiency improvements. The Quadro version uses a blue light source instead of the original red which, according to Croplands, is more sensitive to weeds and less sensitive to background noise.
Since taking on the distribution of WEED-IT in Australia nearly a decade ago, Croplands has developed a range of sprayers and platforms that will work best with the system and will work well in local conditions.
Some of Cropland’s more popular WEED-IT models include the WEED-IT 7000, which features a 7000-litre main tank, 800-litre flushing tank and a 1500-litre hot tank. The latter has been designed to hold high-concentration chemicals for spot spraying.
