Deere 2430 chisel plow rips through tough soils

Offers several new features including TruSet precision depth control system, radial tyres and rear hitch

John Deere’s latest addition to its tillage range - the 2430 chisel plow has been designed to provide better soil-breaking and levelling performance, the company said.

It will replace the existing 2410 model, and will come with several upgrades including the TruSet precision depth control system which will help operators handle tough soils and heavy crop residue on the land while gaining more control of their tillage depth and seedbed finish.

“The new 2430 chisel plow builds on many important features of the 2410,” said John Deere tillage equipment product marketing manager, Jarred Karnei.

“This includes the addition of John Deere’s exclusive TruSet depth and down pressure control system on base equipment and a wide choice of ground-engaging points, spacings and attachments that allow customers to configure the implement to best fit their paddock-specific soil and residue conditions.”

In addition to single-point depth adjustments, the TruSet system gives operators on-the-go, in-cab shank depth control in .254mm (1/10-inch) increments across the entire width of the 2430 chisel plow as it works across the paddock.

In addition, TruSet provides up to 6205kPa (900psi) down-pressure control of rolling baskets as soil conditions change. Operators have up to four settings that can be customised for common paddock conditions, or they can make setting adjustments as needed.

TruSet provides the documentation and prescription functionality when coupled with other John Deere precision ag technologies like Generation 4 Displays and the John Deere Operations Center. The TruSet Side-to-Side option is available for individual section depth control for three and five-frame models of the 2430, depending on configuration.

In addition, the 2430 chisel plow comes with hardened-steel, knife-edge rolling baskets to effectively handle rocky paddocks; and internal basket scrapers that prevent baskets from plugging under wet conditions.

The active-hydraulic rolling baskets provide optimal field preparation for maximum soil firming, clod breakup and seedbed levelling, John Deere said. The rear hitch has been designed on both the chisel plow and nutrient applicator to enable operators to utilise additional tow-behind attachments, including anhydrous ammonia tanks.

Highly durable radial centre-frame tyres are now standard. According to John Deere, these tyres have a wider footprint and lower inflation pressure to help minimise paddock compaction and improve performance in the paddock and during transport. Castering front and Walk-Over Tandem wheels also come standard.

The 2430 Chisel Plow is available in different sizes and configurations to suit different needs, including rigid frame models with 3.56-5.28m working widths; drawn rigid fold models with working widths from 5.3-6.25m ; 3-section drawn flex C-shank models with working widths from 6.65-13.1m and 5-section drawn flex C-shank models with operating widths from 13.4-19.2m.

“Like the 2410 Chisel Plows, the new 2430 models are built using high-strength steel tubing that provides the superior structural integrity customers have come to expect from John Deere chisel plows,” Karnei said.

“These tillage tools are built to provide years of excellent residue incorporation and soil mixing essential to start the nutrient cycling for next year’s crop.”
