Deere rolls out 5R series workhorses

New John Deere mid-range tractors expected to arrive in Oz by first half of 2017

Built on the success of the previous 5R range, John Deere's next-gen 5R series offers enhanced comfort levels and performance, the company claims.

There are four models in the range– the 90hp 5090R, 100hp 5100R, 115hp 5115R, and 125hp 5125R.

John Deere says the range caters to small and medium sized agricultural, dairy and livestock farms, as well as local government.

The revamped 5R models feature a wheelbase of 2.25m, and a one-piece curved frame design with a low centre of gravity to aid front loader installation on-the-go. With a turning radius of just 3.75m, even with a loader attached, the 5R series is made to manoeuvre the smallest areas and tightest spots.

Fuel efficient, Stage IIIB/Interim Tier 4  compliant 4.5-litre John Deere PowerTech PWX engines power the new 5R range. The diesel-only 4-cylinder engines deliver 10 extra horsepower for transport applications via the Transport Power Management (TPM) system.

Three transmission options are available with the 5R. These include the entry level 16/16 CommandQuad manual transmission, which features four ranges and four PowerShift gears within each range; the 16/16 CommandQuad and the 32/16 Command8, with eight PowerShift gears and an ECO mode that enables a top speed of 40km/h at 1759 engine rpm.

The 5R series models have a lifting capacity of 4.7 or optionally, 5.3 tonnes. Its open-centre hydraulic system is equipped with a standard 96l/min pump and is also available with a Pressure and Flow Compensated (PFC) 117l/min version.

A front-axle suspension with independent arms helps improve operator comfort especially in rough terrain. An optional maintenance-free mechanical cab suspension system is also available, which uses two adjustable shock absorbers to support the optional air-suspended seat.

A redesigned cab features a tiltable steering column, Primary Display Unit (PDU+) corner post display, panoramic front windshield and an ergonomic control panel. For front loader operation, John Deere offers a choice of mechanical or new electrical joysticks, both linked to the tractor seat.

John Deere has also improved the 543R front loader to offer a 10 per cent increase in lift capacity, higher breakout force and an increased roll-back angle. Depending on the task, both the 543R and 603R loaders are equipped with a choice of levelling options.

A narrow crop version – the 5RN series has also been revealed, designed for use in narrow row crops, other specialty crops and vineyards. It features a minimum width of 1.8m, a narrow cab and mechanical front wheel drive.

Orders for the new 5R series will commence soon, with stock expected to arrive in the first half of 2017. Pricing for the range starts from $A82,500 for the 5090R, without loader.

John Deere urges interested customers to speak to their local dealers for more information.
