East Wind DFS 554 brings sophistication to low horsepower segment

Midway Sales has lifted the cover off its latest tractor addition, the 55hp East Wind DFS 554 with a series of convenient features including push button PTO and 12 forward and reverse gears.

According to Midway Sales director, Scott Spring-Brown, the new model takes Chinese tractors to another level.

“This machine features a first for Chinese tractors having push button PTO for effortless control of implements,” he said.

“12 forward and 12 reverse gears is pretty impressive too as you would only generally see this in much more expensive big brand tractors.”

“We think this is a really nice sized machine being big enough to mix with farm utility tractors but small enough to play with the compacts.”

The DFS 554 comes standard with a factory fitted 4-in-1 front-end loader complete with a joystick and control valve that, according to Midway Sales, is Italian designed and manufactured.

The single joystick control enables smooth and precise operation of all front-end loader functions such as scooping, scraping, levelling and grabbing.

Opening the 4-in-1 bucket exposes the blade for scraping and pushing soil and also allows operators to grab objects. The East Wind DFS 554’s four-point hydraulic hose removal facilitates the quick release of the loader.

A synchromesh shuttle shift allows operators to move the tractor forward and reverse easily, which is useful for when operators need to shift material with a front-end loader.  Having the control mounted next to the steering wheel frees up space for the operator to move around.

“On top of all that you get a synchromesh gear box eliminating the crunching noise on basic tractors,” Spring-Brown said.

“It all adds up to easier gear selection and smooth shifting on the move.”

The three-point linkage system features quick links that enable easy attachment of implements. With a 2-speed power take off and dual hydraulic remotes also available, the East Wind DFS 554 can operate a wide range of implements including slashers, rotary hoes, grader blades, wood splitters and back hoes.

Perkins designed diesel engines power all East Wind tractors.  Four-wheel drive and power steering come standard with the DFS 554, as well as a certified roll over protective structure with durable plastic sun canopy.

Other features include an adjustable steering wheel, a suspension seat and an easy engine access bonnet.

Pricing for the East Wind DFS 554 starts from $26,990 and comes with a 4-year warranty and after-sales back up from a national service network. Customers can opt for a slasher, ripper carryall, ripper, grader blade and tow hitch package for an extra $3000.
