Fendt 728 Vario wins Tractor of the Year 2023

Seventh-gen Fendt 700 series tractor takes home prestigious award at EIMA 2022

After months of testing and deliberation, Fendt’s latest iteration of its 700 Vario series has been named Tractor of the Year 2023, with the awards presented at a ceremony at the EIMA agricultural trade show in Bologna, Italy, on November 9.

The awards, handed out annually, recognise the most innovative and sustainable tractors in the European market and are decided by a panel of 25 judges consisting of agricultural machinery journalists from around Europe.

Last year, the main award went to John Deere for its 7R 350 AutoPowr tractor.

This year, five tractors were shortlisted for the Tractor of the Year award, but the judges ultimately decided on Fendt as the winner due to the massive range of innovative technology it features.

“The main features of the Tractor of the Year 2023 winner include a brand new six-cylinder, 7.5-litre AGCO-Power engine that produces 283 max hp that also allows an extra power up to 20hp in all conditions; a new transmission; a new hydraulic and cooling system; and a safe cabin filtration,” the judging panel said.

Fendt's seventh generation 728 Vario tractor was named Tractor of the Year 2023.

Other notable features of the new Fendt 728 Vario that were mentioned include constant 4-wheel drive, pull-in turn to reduce the turning radius, Fendt’s iD low-speed concept, intelligent VarioDrive, integrated tyre pressure control system, superior manoeuvrability, very low weight-to-power ratio, a new generation front loader, a new premium driver’s seat and Fendt’s “on & offboard” digital universe FendtONE.

Chairman of the Fendt Management Board, Christoph Gröblinghoff, said the company is pleased to receive the prestigious award.

"Models in the Fendt 700 Vario series are our best-selling tractors and are used by farmers all over the world,” he said.

“For our Fendt engineers, it was therefore a challenge to make something good even better. Factors such as low fuel consumption combined with high performance of up to 300hp, soil conservation and maximum flexibility for different applications are very important for our professional customers worldwide.”

In addition to the main Tractor of the Year award, three other awards were also handed out including Best Utility, Best of Specialised and Sustainable Tractor of the Year.

The complete list of winners are:

Tractor of the Year 2023: Fendt 728 Vario

Best Utility: McCormick X6.414 P6-Drive

Best Specialised: New Holland T4.120 F

Sustainable Tractor of the Year: JCB Fastrac 4220 iCon
