Fendt’s new generation 900 Vario has beaten out four other tractors to nab the prestigious 2020 Tractor of the Year (TOTY) award, presented yesterday at leading international agricultural trade fair, Agritechnica.
The range-topping 415hp Fendt 942 Vario impressed the panel of judges with its suite of innovative features which promote ease of operation and reduced fuel consumption.
“This model impressed with its level of connectivity which permits full remote control of several functions,” the judging panel said, which consisted of machinery journalists and experts from all around Europe.
“The optimisation of the MAN 9-litre engine is based on a low-regime concept (Fendt ID) that delivers a high power performance at a low rpm. This way, the engine smoothly works at a specific max torque level at a minimum consumption level.”
The innovative high performance hydraulics system with two load-sensing pumps capable of delivering a maximum 430l/min of flow was also a winning factor.
“The VarioDrive Transmission splits and delivers the torque to the two axles optimising traction on field and on road,” the judges said.
The new generation Fendt 900 Vario tractors made its global debut in mid-2019 and was launched in Australia at the AgQuip 2019 field days just a month later.
The range cracks into the 400hp segment for the first time with the 942 Vario, offering more choices and power for customers.
Other models in contention for TOTY were the Case IH Magnum 380 CVX Drive, CLAAS Axion 960 Terra Trac, McCormick X7.624 VT Drive and the Valtra N 154e Versu.
Last year, the TOTY award was taken out by Case IH for its Maxxum 145 ActiveDrive 8 tractor.
In addition to the main award, there were also three other winners in separate categories including a brand new “Sustainable TOTY” award handed out for the very first time this year. The award aims to acknowledge machines designed with environmental sustainability in mind, and nominations include both models in production as well as prototype machines.
