Ferrari Sky Jump dual-steer tractor lands in Oz

It could pass as a prop for a Star Wars movie, and turned plenty of heads at Tasmania's recent Agfest agricultural show

Manufactured by Italian ag-machinery company Ferrari, the Sky Jump V95 made its Australian debut at Tasmania's Agfest agricultural show in early May.

Featuring a unique dual-steer system that acts on the front wheels and central articulation, Ferrari's Sky Jump V95 has a tight turning radius that makes it ideal for use in vineyards and orchards, while its narrow 1350mm width helps it manoeuvre easily between rows.

A key feature of the machine is its front tyre and rear track combo, which has been designed to offer manoeuvrability and traction at the same time.

According to Ferrari, the Sky Jump V95 is capable of achieving 60 per cent more traction than all-wheeled models and offers a higher level of side stability, allowing it to work better in espalier rows and on steep slopes.

The tracks also help reduce ground compaction and minimise soil damage.

The Ferrari Sky Jump V95 is powered by a four-cylinder, VM Turbo intercooled engine that produces a claimed 91hp, while emissions are handled by an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

To ensure the operator's safety, Ferrari has installed a braking system with four multiple wet disc brakes on the Sky Jump V95. In addition, an independent Brake-off parking brake exclusive to the Sky Jump is automatically activated when the engine is switched off.

When the unit is operating, the braking function can be controlled with a button on the dashboard.

Other key features of the machine include a rear lift capacity of 2775kg, a working speed of 40km/h and a 32-speed synchronised gearbox with synchronised reverser.

The Ferrari Sky Jump V95 displayed at Agfest is currently the only unit in Australia; it's now making its way around the country for demonstrations and field days.

It is priced at $119,790 including GST.

The unit, as well as the rest of the Ferrari ag range, is distributed in Australia by Mirco Bros Machinery in Western Australia.

"As it is a niche model we will keep our initial stock to a minimum in the short term, and revise pending demand for it over the coming months," says Mirco Bros Machinery manager, Steven Mirco.

"Otherwise we will order more ex-factory units that can be here in as little as 12 weeks."
