Sixty-five-year-old Bernie Ryan from Wangoom (VIC), has become the first customer in Australia to own Mahindra's mFORCE 100hp tractor.
He bought the unit from his local dealer CLAAS Harvest Centre (Landpower) Colac after reading about the new model in the newspapers.
"I bought my last tractor off (CLAAS Harvest Centre Sales Manager) Trevor Bant 12 years ago and I went back to deal with him again," he says.
"I don't have the time for as much tractor work as I used to because I'm milking a lot more cows these days, but I’ll be using it for feeding out, cleaning up and I’ll sometimes put my post-rammer on and use it for general farm duties.
"As soon as the feed starts going off I start feeding out hay and silage, so probably just before Christmas I’ll be using it quite a lot, right through until I start turning cows out towards the end of March, and then I’ll keep feeding until the weather breaks and then pull back a bit."
The Mahindra mFORCE 100P was launched in early October at the Elmore Machinery Field Days in Victoria and has taken over as Mahindra's new flagship tractor.
It is powered by a 100.4hp Perkins four-cylinder engine which develops 418Nm of peak torque at 1400rpm. A 32-speed transmission provides speeds from crawling up to 40km/h.
It features a 3110kg lift capacity at the rear linkage, and 1100kg on the self-levelling front loader. PowerShift and PowerShuttle forward and reverse functions allow operators to drive the mFORCE with ease.
"My two sisters, who are both Melbourne-based, had a drive of it here on the weekend and they were both quite impressed at how easy it was to drive," Ryan says.
"We are very happy with it so far, it’s very good. It's quite comfortable to ride in and it seems to have plenty of torque there.
"It's much better than the last tractor I had."
Electronic lift control buttons on the rear fender allow operators to raise and lower the linkage, while a 'Turn Up & Back Up' feature raises rear implements automatically for easier headland turn-and-reverse.
The Mahindra mFORCE also features three remote selective control valves (SCV) with a 61.3l/min implement pump, as well as a three-speed rear PTO.
CLAAS Harvest Centre Colac Sales Manager, Trevor Bant, says the dealership has already sold two Mahindra mFORCE models and has placed an order for another two more due to good demand.
"We can see there’s definitely a spot for them in the market place. I think they’re great value - we’re going to sell a heap of them," he says.
"Basically it’s a great all-purpose tractor with which to feed out. It’s an ideal size, weight, and it represents extremely good value because it will fill a broad range of applications.
"The other factor is that it's an extremely easy tractor to drive. All a lot of people want, is a tractor that’s not unnecessarily complicated to use, is strong and reliable, and well designed, and that’s what that tractor is."
All Mahindra tractors come with a three year or 2000 hour powertrain warranty as standard. Pricing for the Mahindra mFORCE 100P starts from $76,000.
