Today (November 17, 2023) is National Agriculture Day, a day where Australians are encouraged to come together to celebrate farmers and the food and fibre they grow.
Newly elected National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) President, David Jochinke, said AgDay was a chance to celebrate, inspire and learn.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re in a high rise or a header, this is a day for all Australians to come together to celebrate our incredible food and fibre,” he said.
“It’s a day for farmers and people in agriculture to showcase what they do and to start conversations with kids and the wider community about what they do.
“But it’s also a day for all Australians to engage with the farming world, to learn more, and celebrate our farmers and the incredible food and fibre they grow.”
This year’s theme is “Grow you good thing!”, which is also a catch cry the NFF hopes people will get behind.

“Many farmers are facing a below average growing season and livestock prices have tanked,” Jochinke said.
“Shout outs of ‘Grow you good thing!’ from the community will go a long way.”
NFF has suggested several ways everyday Australians can get involved this AgDay 2023.
There are over 80 public events listed for AgDay this year right across the country. To find an event near you, visit agday.org.au.
Post your AgDay selfies on social media and use the hashtags #AgDayAU and #GrowYouGoodThing. You can also tag and follow the AgDay platform, Australian Farmers, on social media Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.
If you have official “I love farmers” or “Grow you good thing!” merch, make sure you have them on.
Today is the final day you can enter the AgDay photo and video competition, which closes at 5pm AEDT. A prize pool of $5000 is up for grabs for those who manage to best capture Australian agriculture and the theme “Grow you good thing!”. Enter at agday.org.au.
When planning tonight’s meal, think of how you can celebrate Australian grown produce. And don’t forget the incredible natural fibres our farmers grow. Next time you’re in the shop for a new outfit, consider buying Australian cotton or merino clothes.
