A new three-way potato separator system from GRIMME is set to revolutionise the potato industry with its ability to remove up to 98 per cent of waste material and process hundreds of tonnes of spuds an hour.
Three infinitely-adjustable polyurethane rollers help to break up lumps of soil and separate loose soil and smaller, waste potatoes.
Two rotating rollers then separate the smaller potatoes from the main crop. A high performance infrared sensor - called the Field Potato Sorter (FPS) – then identifies and removes any remaining lumps, stones and other waste products.
An electro-mechanical sensor mounted over the main product conveyor prevents foreign objects, such as large stones or wood, damaging the FPS.
The 2.4 m wide separation belt ensures high throughput and gentle handling.

According to Landpower GRIMME Operations Manager, Rob Breedveld, the PowerCombi can significantly reduce labour requirements in potato packing sheds.
“The PowerCombi can easily be operated by one person,” he says.
“In theory, this system could replace up to eight employees, which represents a significant saving for the owner.”
The spacious control platform, which includes a large FPS terminal, offers a good all-round view of the separating operations.
A hose drum and air pressure connections are fitted as standard.
