Hatz engines light yet powerful

Hatz Diesel claims its newest water-cooled engine range is the lightest on the market

German industrial diesel engine specialist Hatz Diesel has introduced its new H50 series engines in Australia which includes three-cylinder and four-cylinder models.

The four-cylinder 2.0-litre 4H50 that was recently launched into the Australian market made an appearance at the 2016 AgQuip field days.

Hatz Diesel Australia Managing Director, Sami Almogawish, says the H50 series is ideally suited to a range of applications, from running wood chippers to generators, water-pump sets, irrigation equipment, hydraulic power packs, compressor power packs and construction equipment.

"The H50 series represents a new generation of water-cooled diesel engines," he says. "They are the world's smallest in their power range and are up to 90kg lighter than the nearest competitor.

"This leads to a very low power-to-weight ratio and unsurpassed fuel efficiency."

Almogawish says the 4H50 is the most efficient engine in the 37-56/62kW class, consuming only 210g/kWh of fuel.

"Fuel consumption is much lower than any other engine on the market," he says.

A key component of the H50 range is an off-highway Bosch common rail technology with 1800bar injection pressure. The range also features Bosch parts, such as a high-pressure pump, injection controller and off-highway injectors that minimise friction and promote smooth running and quiet operation, while keeping exhaust emissions to a minimum.

The engines use a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) that complies with EPA Tier 4 emissions standards without the help of a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Hatz says the elimination of a DPF helps reduce maintenance cost and downtime.

Almogawish says Hatz's unique 'conservative-innovative' philosophy contributed to its products' high degree of productivity.

"The design is simple, with very few moving parts and internal friction kept to a minimum," he says.

"For example, each of the four cylinders on the 4H50 engine has only two valves, resulting in high mechanical robustness and simplicity.

"This in conjunction with roller tappets and a lower camshaft reduces installation space and gives the customers the benefit of a compact but high-performing engine."

The maintenance interval for the H50 series is 500 engine hours. All maintenance points are located on one side of the engine for easy servicing.

"We’re very happy with the interest we’re generating in Australia for [the 4H50]. It has been very well received," Almogawish adds.

"It’s a game changer, simply because it has set world records so now others will have to try and compete with it. We’re proud of what they’ve developed in Germany for us."

Hatz offers in-house customisation and is able to fit additional equipment such as control panels, so each engine is fit for purpose.

The company also pre-delivers all engines before selling them. This includes running the engine so the customer takes delivery of a ready-to-install, turn-key package.

Hatz Diesel's three-cylinder 1.5-litre 3H50 engine made its global debut at the Bauma trade fair in Munich, Germany, earlier this year and will now enter a testing stage before it goes into production in 2018.

Hatz says it has taken a ground-breaking downsizing approach to deliver an extremely compact three-cylinder range that offers three variants – the 3H50TI, 3H50TIC and 3H50TICD.

Despite their feather weight, the 3H50 engines offer up to 46kW of power for industrial purposes.

"The 3H50 really wowed Bauma attendees and is sure to change the game completely when it enters production in 2018," says Almogawish.

The Hatz Diesel 4H50 is available in Australia now.
