HerbHy fast tracks rough-terrain mowing

Radio-controlled track mower can take on all sorts of terrain for landscaping purposes

Local farm machinery distributor Inlon has recently added the Italian-made HerbHy 40 tracked mower to its stable of commercial landscaping products, which currently includes the award-winning Spider mower range.

The Spider, originally released in Australia in 2007, turned heads and even snagged an innovation award at CIVENEX with its innovative design that allows operators to mow steep slopes and uneven terrain safely. Like the HerbHy 40, the Spider is also radio-controlled, allowing operators to carry out mowing operations from a distance.

“The Spider commercial mower-slasher range has already proved popular for general maintenance of steep slopes or rapidly changing contours, removing the OH&S concerns of traditional ride-on wheeled machines,” says Inlon Product Manager, Glenn Dwyer.

“But the radio-controlled HerbHy 40 track machine can go where no mower-slasher has been before. It will take on the roughest terrain, ruts, holes, even eroded mines, clearing everything in its path.”

Powered by a 40hp turbo-charged Perkins diesel engine, the HerbHy is designed for clearing heavy growth on slopes up to 55 degrees, or powering across flat, difficult terrain.

A graphic LED display shows the degree of slopes and provides engine diagnostics. Featuring a sturdy under-body protection structure, the HerbHy is suitable for clearing shrubs under canopy areas, in state forests, embankments, highways, rail corridors, airports and military zones as well as for fire break clearing, even in the presence of fire.

The HerbHy tackles heavy shrubs such as lantana, blackberries, bamboo and various regrowth up to 100mm

With the optional forestry mulcher head, the HerbHy can tackle heavy shrubs such as lantana, blackberries, bamboo and various regrowth up to 100mm. The head features a push bar for taller growth, to first push and cut down with the remotely operated door open, and then mulch the material on the ground with the door closed.

‘The tracks can be hydraulically widened from 1360 to 1860mm to improve machine stability on steeper slopes, while the automatic hydraulic tensioning system reduces track maintenance, extends track life and reduces ownership costs,” Dwyer explains.

“Inlon is always testing and evaluating new models that will suit the challenging Australian terrain,” Dwyer says.

“The HerbHy 40 offers a powerful and safe opportunity for heavy duty ground clearance, and its large range of tool attachments from a bucket to a stump grinder make it extra versatile for all applications.”
