Following a global launch back in 2017, JCB’s innovative Teleskid has finally made its way Down Under, with the first models arriving in the country earlier this year.
It is a unique machine that has the body of a skid-steer or compact-track loader but with a telescopic boom giving it a vertical reach of almost 4m and a forward reach of 2.4m, allowing it to reach heights and lengths no compact loader could achieve.
What’s also unique about the Teleskid is its ability to reach 0.9m below ground, allowing users to rip out trees and roots with ease.
JCB claims the Teleskid is also the only skid-steer loader/compact-track loader on the market with true bi-directional and extendable parallel lift, with its zero turning radius allowing operators to work in the tightest of spaces.
JCB has essentially designed the Teleskid to do the work of four machines: a forklift, telescopic handler, compact loader and a skid-steer.
The JCB Teleskid offers 270 degrees of vision from within the cabin thanks to the large front windshield, which can easily be removed for a quick exit in case of an emergency.
Entry into the machine is via a side door, unlike most other compact loaders which have entry via the front. This eliminates the risk of operators tripping over buckets or other attachments while trying to get into the machine. JCB was able to achieve this thanks to its one-boom-arm structure, with the telescopic boom positioned on one side of the machine, hence allowing the entrance to be placed on the other side.
The Teleskid is fitted with a JCB EcoMAX engine that JCB said provides increased performance at low engine speed for improved cycle times. There is no DPF system in the Teleskid, allowing it to work productively at all times without regeneration.
It also has greater tractive force than a small telehandler or forklift, JCB said, giving it greater pushing power even in tricky conditions.
The machine is equipped with JCB’s Smoothride System for greater operator comfort and has a standard two-speed transmission for quicker travel and cycle times.
Providing 1.7m reach at full height, the JCB Teleskid allows operators to dump material into hard-to-reach locations, with conventional compact loaders struggling to reach similar heights.
The Teleskid’s centralised lift and extension rams evenly distribute load stresses. The rams are held in place by keyhole castings ensuring structural integrity of the machine is not compromised.
A solid undercarriage with cast steel, triple flanged rollers ensures excellent track retention.
The Teleskid’s telescopic boom is mounted on a single-piece fully welded chassis to maximize strength and minimise weight. Featuring high-strength steel, the boom has reduced joints and stress points and features a single-piece U-pressed design.
A standard hydraulic flow option of 91l/min on the JCB Teleskid allows users to operate attachments when fully extended. The SAE/ISO quick hitch, fitted to the Teleskid as standard, lets operators utilise any skid-steer and compact-track loader attachment.
The Teleskid comes in both wheeled and tracked configurations and is now available to order through JCB CEA dealerships.
