John Deere adds high-horsepower tractors to 8R and 8RX families

More punch in 440, 490 and 540hp next-gen versions, as well as a variety of performance and tech options

John Deere has launched six new 8R and 8RX tractors in high-performance 440, 490 and 540hp configurations, with the next-gen models also featuring the latest in autonomy, connectivity, interactivity and ag technology.

The 8R and 8RXs are powered by the JD14 engine, which can be operated in conjunction with John Deere’s optional intelligent power management system for even more performance clout – up to 634hp for the most demanding applications.

There is also an engine brake option and updated hydraulics and independent link suspension on the front axle for improved road performance.

“Whether you are seeding, tilling or planting, these tractors have the power, technology and functionality to increase productivity and efficiencies,” John Deere Marketing Manager, Production and Precision Agriculture, Royce Bell, said.

“Similar to the impact of the HHP 9RX, the HHP 8R and 8RX are expected to increase productivity and efficiency in customer operations while providing the versatility of a rigid chassis tractor. Horsepower, ballasting, lift capacity, size and functionality all increase with these models.”

The new 8 Series tractors have an electric variable transmission with a 60km/h option. The transmission enables electric power offboarding, which means operators don’t need to worry about PTO or hydraulic power generators for electric drive planters. A simple one-plug connection enables power to their planter from the tractor.

As part of the latest updates, three options are available for transmission controls in the cab – CommandX, CommandX Plus and CommandX Pro – to manage tractor operations. The push button start also requires a personalised PIN number.

Additional features include new engine throttle controls, a new display for cab and phone functions, wireless phone charging, a two-way independent electric armrest adjustment and optional door cinch.

Building on the enhancement of ground-up serviceability on the high-horsepower 9RX, the engine oil, coolant and hydraulic oil sight gauges are placed at eye level so fluids can be quickly checked. The air filter and fuel fill from the ground.

The hydraulic oil interval increases from 1500 to 2000 hours, while a 330-degree windshield wiper provides a clearer view. The battery disconnect and jump-start point are on the door side for improved accessibility.
