John Deere releases new rotary cutters

New mowing line-up features new deck and cutting chamber design

John Deere has unveiled the E, M and R-Series rotary cutters to its mowing equipment line-up, which will replace the existing CX range of flex-wing rotary cutters in Australia.

The new range will feature a variety of working widths and configurations to mow grass, pastures, corporate land, road sides, parks, crop stalks or maintain large commercial lots.

John Deere's new E12 rotary cutter features a 75hp gearbox and Category 4 driveline.

The E-Series includes a 3.6m (12ft) E12 and a 4.5m (15ft) E15. The M-Series offers the 4.5m (15ft) M15 and 6.1m (20ft) M20 models. The range-topping R-Series includes a 3.05m (10-ft) model, followed by the 4.5m (15ft) R15 and 6.1m (20ft) R20 models.

Key features on the new machines include a new deck and cutting chamber for improved cutting performance.

"The all-new cutting chamber has been designed from the ground up to control air flow under the deck," said John Deere marketing representative, Cristina Guzman. "This improves cutting performance and cut material distribution from below the deck while reducing material accumulation on top of the cutter deck."

The cutting chamber is now also larger to improve cutting quality when operated at higher ground speeds.

Up front, a new suspended front mount improves machine stability by isolating the movement of the cutter deck relative to the tractor and vice versa, Guzman said. "This helps reduce stress on the machine while delivering a comfortable ride for the driver," she said.

Maintenance free bushings and sealed wheel bearings on the R Series reduces maintenance requirements and improves reliability and uptime.

A new torsional rear suspension system that is available on John Deere windrowers is an option on the M-Series and is included in the base package for the R-Series. John Deere said the suspension further improves machine stability while delivering an improvement on cutting height.

Maintenance free bushings and sealed wheel bearings, available only on the R-series, reduce maintenance requirements and improves reliability and uptime.

The E-Series cutters feature a 75hp gearbox and Category 4 driveline. A 100hp gearbox and Category 5 driveline are standard on the M-Series, with the option to upgrade to a higher-performing 125hp gearbox with Category 6 driveline. All R-Series cutters feature a new 125hp gearbox and Category 6 main driveline as standard.
