John Deere has launched its new F8 and F9 Self-Propelled Forage Harvesters in Australia, featuring increased productivity, comfort and precision agriculture technology.
The 2026 model year F8 and F9 line-up includes new engines, a redesigned cab and a suite of automation and control upgrades designed to enhance silage quality while reducing operator stress.
John Deere Australia and New Zealand Marketing Manager for Small Ag and Turf, Erin Wagstaff, said operators will immediately notice the upgraded comfort and control features in the new range.
“The new wider cabins have been designed with the operator in mind, with comfortable adjustable seats, an optional electric closing door to ensure a perfect seal and clever storage solutions in the armrests and behind the seats,” Wagstaff said. “There are even dedicated holders for drinks, smartphones, keys and larger items.”
Integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enables seamless smartphone connectivity, while the premium infotainment system supports Bluetooth, streaming and hands-free calling. Charging options include 12V and USB ports located throughout the cabin.
Comfort is further improved with the swivelling ActiveSeat, and the optional ActiveSeat II adds electric controls, heating, cooling, massage, and active suspension that absorbs up to 90 per cent of vertical movements. Slim cab pillars and wide windows also offer panoramic visibility from the header to the 230° rotating spout.
“We have reimagined the design to deliver not only a powerful machine, but also an exceptional driving experience, allowing drivers to push harvesting to new limits while enjoying first-class comfort,” Wagstaff added.
The F8 and F9 harvesters feature an ergonomic CommandPRO joystick with up to 11 customisable buttons, and machine settings can be stored per operator profile. The G5/G5Plus CommandCenter touchscreen is now 35 per cent larger and 75 per cent faster, with high-definition 1080p resolution and an intuitive menu layout. An optional G5Plus Extended Monitor allows operators to manage even more functions at a glance.
The F8 series is powered by a European Stage V emission standards compliant JD14X engine, offering rated power from 419hp to 636hp. The F9 models step up to the JD18X engine offering 690hp to 809hp, John Deere engine controls, a high-pressure common-rail fuel system and serial turbochargers with cooled exhaust gas recirculation with no need for diesel exhaust fluid.
Finally, the top-end F9 900 and 1000 use a 24.2-litre Liebherr V12, producing up to 1006hp.
All models include HarvestMotion for efficient power delivery at lower engine speeds, ensuring maximum productivity and improved fuel efficiency.
“The F8 and F9 can be equipped with advanced automation and John Deere Precision Ag Technology, which is the best we have ever offered in forage harvesting,” Wagstaff said.
The comprehensive technology stack includes:
“These features help boost efficiency and forage quality,” Wagstaff said.
Silage quality is also improved with the updated DuraDrum cutterhead and IDS 2.0 inoculant dosing system. The latter works with HarvestLab sensor readings to optimise silage quality with a 50-litre insulated concentrate tank for highly concentrated additives and a 325-litre tank for high volume applications and water.
Customers can also choose from two new advanced kernel processor options:
Wagstaff said the new John Deere F8 and F9 Self-Propelled Forage Harvesters will be available to order later this year.
