John Deere X series combine touches down

John Deere’s highly anticipated X series combines have arrived in the country, with dealerships now taking orders for stock to arrive in mid-2022.

The X series, which would have been headlining Australian field days this year, is a significant step up from John Deere's existing S series combines, featuring one of the largest cleaning shoes in the industry, the company says.

The 7sqm Dyno-Flo XL Cleaning Shoe has 36 per cent more cleaning area compared to the S790, Deere says.

That combined with a wide feeder house that John Deere says offers the largest threshing and separation capacity in its harvester range, the X series promises significantly increased capacity and productivity.

There are two models available in the X series - the X9 1000 and X9 1100 with tank capacities of 14,800 litres and 16,200 litres respectively. According to John Deere, the capacities represented an increase of up to 15 per cent compared to the next largest model in John Deere’s harvester range – the S790.

“At the heart of the new combine is the X series Dual Separator (XDS) with the largest threshing and separation areas Deere has ever offered,” says John Deere Tactical Segment Manager, Marko Koelln.

“Crop in the XDS is threshed and separated during nine revolutions, resulting in less grain loss and increased harvesting capacity.”

An all new John Deere PowerTech™ 13.6L engine powers the new X series, working with the updated ProDrive™ XL Transmission to improve fuel efficiency.

“Compared to the S790, the X9 1100 uses up to 20 per cent less fuel per tonne harvested to help keep input costs low,” Koelln says.

On top of the capacity increases, the X series is also a very smart machine, Deere says, thanks to the wide range of tech that comes with the machine.

Perhaps the most significant feature is the optional Combine Advisor that automatically adjusts harvesting parameters to suit the current conditions.

“For example, in the morning, straw can be damp and make threshing and separating tough. Later in the day, moisture evaporates, and harvesting conditions improve," Koelln says.

"In the past, these changes required operators to adjust harvester settings to help the machine compensate – now the adjustments are made automatically.”

What this means is operators have a larger harvesting window to work with so they can do more in a day.

The Combine Advisor package, which includes ActiveVision™ Camera technology and Auto Maintain, is offered in the Ultimate technology package that has all the bells and whistles operators need to ensure the most efficient harvest no matter the conditions.

Other tech packages that are available with the X series include Select and Premium.

Select is the most basic that includes features such as StarFire 6000 Integrated Receiver, Generation 4 4600 Display, Harvest Smart™ and Interactive Combine Adjustment. The Premium package has all the features of the Select package as well as Active Terrain Adjustment and the Premium 3.0 Activation with AutoTrac™ RowSense™, Section Control and In-Field Data Sharing.

The Ultimate package offers all of the above, plus Automation 3.0 Activation with Generation 4 Machine Sync and the Combine Advisor Technology Package.

Both X9 1000 and X9 1100 offers JDLink™ as standard and comes with five years of service in base. JDLink™ enables machine-to-machine communication and makes it easy for the owner to share agronomic and machine performance information.

John Deere Connected Support™ also comes standard that allows owners to obtain dealer support as needed through Expert Alerts plus remote support.

The X Series cabin has been redesigned to offer more storage space, more USB ports and better connectivity, John Deere said. For an automotive-like experience, customers can add an optional touchscreen radio that’s smart-phone ready so operators can use voice commands or integrated controls to get directions, make calls, listen to music, or send and receive messages.

Three comfort and convenience cab packages are available - Select, Premium or Ultimate. The Ultimate includes a new ventilated massaging seat that swivels 16 degrees right or left for improved operator visibility and all-day comfort.

A Signature Edition is also available and includes the highest levels of comfort, lighting and technology.

Deere's X series combines are available on wheels or tracks with Control Traffic Farming configurations.
