Recognising the demand for efficient commercial mixers in feedlots particularly in Queensland, KUHN Australia has introduced its BOTEC TMR mixer wagons catering to the bigger livestock operations.
The BOTEC range features three models, with the mid-range BTC 163 making its debut at the FarmFest show in Toowoomba, QLD, last month.
The BTC 163 features a 17.3 cubic-metre capacity and a single axle as standard, but is also available on a bogie axle if required. Customers can also specify for extensions to add more capacity and also for the units to come in truck-mounted configurations.
A four-point weighing system comes standard complete with a display which allows operators to key in recipe information to ensure a consistent feed mix every time.
The four-auger system is suitable for the mixing of grains and up to 30 per cent of pre-chopped hay and silage. However, there is the option to add extra knives to the lower auger for more optimal processing of hay if needed.
A unique feature of the BTC mixers is the placement and movement of its four horizontal augers – two on top and two at the bottom.
“The top two offset augers rotate one way and the bottom two offset augers rotate the other, which allows the feed to mix consistently from the front to the back of the mixer which minimises dead spots around the machine," said KUHN’s livestock products specialist, Tom De Greenlaw.
Due to the cross-mixing action of the augers, the machine can properly mix either full or partial batches of feed, providing operators with the versatility to mix any size ration.
With the BTC mixer wagons, operators have multiple options for the discharge of feed.
“You can have a slide tray discharge or you can have the chain and slat conveyor which comes in 28, 36 or 40-inch options,” De Greenlaw said.
“There is also a four auger discharge which shoot the product out into the bunker.”
KUHN has redesigned its drive system on the BTC mixers to handle the heaviest of commercial loads. This includes upgraded planetary gearboxes and a heavy-duty roller chain operating in a fully enclosed oil bath.
Weighing about 7.9 tonnes, the BTC 163 runs off a 140hp tractor in the trailer configuration.
“You also get a secondary weighing box mounted on the back of the machine so when you’re loading it, you can see the weight of what you’re putting in,” De Greenlaw added.
The BTC 163 also features partial or full stainless steel liners in the mixing bin for longevity.
KUHN is taking the BOTEC range out on a series of demonstrations around Queensland including Toowoomba, Chinchilla and Roma where farmers will get the chance to witness the machine in action.
Pricing for the BTC 163 starts from about $193,000 excluding GST. For more information, contact your dealer or visit kuhn.com.au
