Kuhn upgrades baler wrapper

The new i-BIO+ features a unique film binding system that offers tighter wrapped bales and significant cost savings, Kuhn claims

Farmers in Australia are now able to purchase Kuhn's new fixed chamber round baler-wrapper, the i-BIO+, for the upcoming hay season.

The innovative machine was launched to the global market at the Agritechnica 2015 trade fair in Hanover, Germany, last November.

It combines both baler and wrapper in one machine for increased productivity in the field.

Its defining feature, KUHN says, is a patented two-reel film binding system which applies film on the cylindrical side of the bale in the bale chamber.

It uses standard stretch film instead of special wide film and, according to Kuhn, offers the following advantages over net binding and conventional wrappers:

  • Better silage quality due to increased oxygen barrier around the cylindrical side
  • Up to 30 per cent film cost savings for film binding due to higher stretch ratio
  • Tighter wrapped bales
  • Improved bale shape
  • Easy unwrapping as film does not catch on bale
  • Larger intervals for exchange of film rolls
  • Optimised processing time as the beginning and end string are as short as possible due to the two-reel concept

The i-BIO+ weighs less than 3700kg, making it a manoeuvrable and compact machine ideal for work on hilly terrain or wet fields with narrow access gates.

It features a 230cm wide pick-up unit with cam track for optimal crop intake. Equipped with KUHN's patented Integral Rotor with double rotor tines made out of Hardox wear plates, the machine offers constant crop flow and aggressive intake at all times, KUHN says.

The i-BIO+ is available with two cutting options – the OPTICUT 14 with 14 knives or OPTICUT 23 with 23 knives. In case of a rotor blockage, the floor and knives can be lowered hydraulically from the tractor cab. After the blockage is cleared, they can be easily brought back into working position.

Inside the bale chamber, 18 rollers with power track profile offer reliable bale rotation. New integrated stainless steel low friction plates have been installed to reduce the power requirement of the machine.

Six rollers in the bottom chamber segment act as a wrapping table during the bale wrapping process so transferring of the bale is not necessary.

Another upgrade on the i-BIO+ is its higher quality drive chains designed for maximum strength and reliability.

The i-BIO+ also features a new net binder with active stretch technology for firm bale shapes every time, KUHN says. For tighter wrapped and denser bales, operators only need to adjust the net stretch via a variable pulley.

KUHN's IntelliWrap system provides operators with greater control over the wrapping process, the company says. IntelliWrap uses advanced electronics and hydraulics to monitor the wrapping process and continuously controls the film overlap.

Depending on circumstances, crop conditions and storage periods, the amount of film layers can be adjusted via the user-friendly wrapping interface.

The i-BIO+ is ISOBUS compatible, and operators can control all baling functions from inside the cab via the colour screen terminals.

KUHN's i-BIO+ round baler wrapper is currently available in Australia and is priced at $134,144 excluding GST.
