Lely debuts new variable-chamber round balers

Lely has updated its range of variable-chamber round balers, with the new Lely Welger RP 160 V range making its public debut at the giant Agritechnica fair in Hanover, Germany, in late 2015.

"The exceptional performance of the Lely Welger RP 160 V is due to a unique design that incorporates a larger-capacity variable bale chamber and many options in feeding and chopping," says Lely balers product manager Gilles Troff.

"It has proven not only to create perfect bales across a range of crops and conditions, but is exceptionally user friendly by design."

The range itself consists of two models – the RP 160 V Classic, which has a basic setup and is more suited to drier crops; and the RP 160 V, which features a heavy-duty power split gearbox for heavier conditions.

The RP 160 V comes as a rotor-feed non-chopper baler or can be fitted with Lely’s Mastercut 13 knife or Xtracut 17 knife chopping systems.

The new range features a 2.25m five-tine bar high-capacity camless pick-up. The cleverly designed segment plates and the short distance from the pick-up to the rotor helps ensure excellent crop throughput, said Lely.

A brand new bale chamber design helps improve the bale formation process from the start. The range also features Lely's Constant Pressure System (CPS), which ensures the balers deliver high density and well-shaped bales.

High and consistent bale density reduces costs and ensures a rapid start of the fermentation process in baled silage, resulting in higher feed quality.

Other features include the Easy net Loading System (ELS), where net rolls are loaded from ground level to save time and effort.

The easily opened guarding doors give quick access to the second net roll storage and increased access to the machine for maintenance and inspection. Central greasing banks allow for easy daily maintenance.

The Lely Welger RP 160 V range also features automatic chain lubrication as standard, which ensures all drive chains are constantly lubricated to promote longevity.

Its newly designed drawbar can be adapted to any type of tractor, while the new storage area for the hydraulic hoses ensures quick coupling.

New to the Lely Welger RP 160 V Classic is the Lely E-LINK control unit. This unit provides the operator with a clear overview of all baler processes on a colour screen.

The clear button controls give the operator direct access to important functions and allow them to make most machine adjustments and settings from the tractor cab.

The E-LINK Pro terminal comes standard on both RP 160 V models and has ISOBUS compatibility, allowing operators to use any tractor with Lely’s new balers.
