Massey Ferguson’s “new era” journey continues with the launch of its MF 9S tractor series, now also its largest tractor range.
The series has six models altogether with power output ranging from 285hp to 425hp.
It inherits the properties of Massey Ferguson’s “new era” tractors, which were first produced in 2020, beginning with the MF 8S, which won Tractor of the Year that same year.
Since then, Massey Ferguson has released the MF 5S, MF 6S and MF 7S series and now, the flagship MF 9S.
The MF 9S is also the first tractor range to feature the new Massey Ferguson logo which was unveiled almost two years ago, the company added.
In addition to offering all the tried-and-true features that its award-winning siblings do, the MF 9S also offers an elevated user experience with its range of innovative technology, Massey Ferguson said.
“The introduction of the MF 9S Series represents a significant milestone for Massey Ferguson in Australia and New Zealand,” said Senior Manager of Marketing for Massey Ferguson in Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East, Haydn Reeves.
“Our ANZ Product Management team collaborated closely with the dedicated global team to ensure that the development process of the all-new MF 9S considered the specific requirements of our region. As a result, the MF 9S Series is set to be introduced in Australia and New Zealand in 2024.
“It features a remarkable horsepower increase, with some models offering up to 425hp, a significant enhancement compared to the previously cherished MF 8700S Series, which reached a maximum of 370hp.
“This improvement, combined with farmer-centric enhancements in cabin comfort, operational efficiency, and technological advancements, is poised to redefine the Massey Ferguson high horsepower range in Australia and New Zealand.”
Power for all MF 9S models is delivered by the well proven six-cylinder, 8.4-litre AGCO Power engine. Engine Power Management (EPM) boosts torque up to 1750Nm and generates up to 30hp of extra power at speeds above 15km/h for PTO and hydraulic applications on all models (except the MF 9S.425).
The engine complies with the Stage V emissions regulations using a simplified version of the All-In-One system, which no longer uses an EGR valve. Instead, it employs a new, straightforward turbocharging system, with a single, advanced turbo. Together these updates greatly increase reliability and reduce maintenance costs, Masey Ferguson said.
Engines complying with Tier 3 emission regulations are also available, depending on specific market requirements.
The MF 9S comes with a 10 per cent larger, 660-litre fuel tank for longer working days without the need for refills.
All MF 9S tractors come standard with Massey Ferguson's Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission, with new power management to deliver additional torque and horsepower.
The new models feature Massey Ferguson’s unique Protect-U installation which separates the cab and engine to minimise vibration within the cab as well as reduce noise levels.
With a volume of 3.4 cubic-metres, it’s also one of the most spacious cabs in the market, Massey Ferguson claimed.
The Premium specification seat is fitted with a large comfortable armrest, which holds the Datatronic 5 touchscreen terminal and Multipad joystick. These provide control and setting of all the main functions, including the electric spool valves.
A ventilated box under the passenger seat and multiple storage compartments, cup and bottle holders around the cab give operators that extra bit of convenience and comfort.
Climate control functions within the cab helps to maintain a comfortable temperature all day long.
On top of the Exclusive specification is a further Professional Package option, which provides an air hose connection and electrical supply mounted near the steps, along with a portable toolbox, hose, blow gun and torch.
A sloping windscreen, combined with a narrow-nose bonnet offers optimum visibility to operators. A rear-facing camera comes standard, with three additional cameras available as options for a 360-degree view around the machine.
A new, 360-degree LED lighting configuration has a total of 23 work lights that allows operators to work confidently even in low light conditions.
With the MF 9S series, Massey Ferguson has promised new levels of automation and productivity with the inclusion of MF Guide, MF TaskDoc and MF Connect telemetry as standard; with the MF AutoTurn, AutoHeadland, ISOBUS Tractor Implement Management, MF Section Control and MF Rate Control available as options.
MF AutoTurn, an option for MF Guide, automatically steers the tractor into the next wayline.
With AutoHeadland, two headland sequences can be automatically started and stopped, according to the tractor GPS position. With the Trimble GPS receiver delivering sub-metre precision as standard, this not only improves repeatable accuracy but also relieves the operator of repetitive tasks, Massey Ferguson said.
The ISOBUS Tractor Implement Management feature enables a compatible implement to manage and control tractor functions, such as forward speed and the hydraulics, hence improving productivity while at the same time reducing operator fatigue.
All MF 9S tractors also come with the option of Massey Ferguson’s new Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS), which is controlled through Datatronic 5 or Fieldstar 5 terminals and quickly adjusts tyre pressure to reduce compaction and achieve optimum traction.
Employing a twin, 650 litre/min compressor, it takes just four minutes to increase pressure in typical set of VF 710/75R42 + VF 620/75R30 tyres from 0.8 bar to 1.6 bar.
Massey Ferguson said the CTIS is proven to reduce fuel consumption by 10 per cent to 15 per cent, as well as reduce compaction by increasing the machine’s footprint by up to 150 per cent.
MF 9S Series tractors has an ECO hydraulic system that delivers 205 l/min at 1,650 rpm or 270 l/min at 1850 rpm. Oil is delivered by an open-centre and a closed-centre pump, with a dedicated pump for control valves.
A new dual closed-centre pump option, which delivers 340 litres/min at 1650rpm or 400 litres/min at 1850 rpm, is available with six spool valves. One pump supplies continuous flow to three valves, while another provides variable flow to the other three and looks after ancillary circuits, such as the steering.
A higher capacity hydraulic tank provides 101 litres of exportable oil capacity, to power complex equipment. A new hydraulic top link option with a larger, 120mm diameter ram increases lift capacity to 20-tonnes to handle heavier implements.
A new 5-tonne capacity front linkage, connected to the first rear valve, provides an affordable option for those who do not require front hydraulic couplers.
The MF 9S is built on a 3.1m wheelbase and weighs from 10,900kg, but for heavy draft work and higher traction can be ballasted up to 18,500kg, providing a power-to-weight ratio of up to 64.9kg/hp for the smallest model.
A new suspended front axle provides a turning radius of just 5.75m, depending on tyres. A larger 125mm diameter rear bar axle enables more power to be transmitted to the ground and supports larger loads.
The new axle also accommodates a greater choice of wheels and tyres, Massey Ferguson added.
