Massey Ferguson, a brand under the AGCO umbrella, has been awarded a Farm Machine 2023 award for its MF 5S series of tractors at a special ceremony at the SIMA agricultural trade show, in Paris, France, on November 6, 2022.
The award, formerly known as Machine of the Year, recognises the best farm machinery in the European market across a range of categories, including tractors, combine harvesters, hay tools and more.
Massey Ferguson’s MF 5S range, now available for sale in Australia and New Zealand, took out the award for the “tractors under 120hp” category.
It is based on the company’s flagship and award-winning MF 8S series featuring its ‘new era’ design principles, offering customers superior visibility and a range of advanced features to improve connectivity and productivity.
With its narrow, steep-nosed bonnet, and a turning radius of 4m, the MF 5S Series makes for great loader tractors, Massey Ferguson said. With optional front axle suspension, a high payload and linkage capacity, it is a great all-rounder workhorse for the farm, the company adds.
“It is a great honour to receive this prestigious award, which is judged by international specialists,” said Massey Ferguson Europe & Middle East Vice President & Managing Director, Thierry Lhotte.
“It is a great achievement for the whole Massey Ferguson team who designed this tractor with farmers.”
The MF 5S Series offers five models from 105hp to 145hp and offers a choice of Essential or Efficient specifications in Australia and New Zealand.
The tractors are powered by the latest AGCO Power 4.4-litre, four cylinder engines with ‘All in One’ SCR technology and integrated seamlessly in the machine to maintain visibility for farmers.
The MF 5S Series tractors come with a choice of either the Dyna-4 or Dyna-6 transmissions, as well as a Brake-to-Neutral feature which disengages drive when the brakes are applied.
Its robust three-point linkage has a lifting capacity of up to 6000kg, which Massey Ferguson says is 14 per cent more than the previous models.
Its front linkage capacity has increased from 2500kg to 3000kg, while its Gross Vehicle Weight has also increased 12 per cent to 9.5 tonnes, allowing the MF 5S to safely handle larger loads.
MF 5S Series tractors can be fully connected with MF Connect telemetry an option on all models. The Geofencing function improves logistics management and security by sending alerts to smart phones and mobile devices if and when machines leave or enter pre-defined areas.
Massey Ferguson’s Datatronic 5 terminal is an option on Efficient variants. This ISOBUS compatible touch-screen operator information station monitors all the tractor functions and controls any ISOBUS compliant implement.
Easily operated through the Datatronic 5 terminal, MF E-loader enables operators to monitor the loader functions, weigh individual loads, automate the grapple operation as well as set-up and save automatic sequences for different loading cycles.
Datatronic 5 can also run MF Technologies/Smart Farming Suite providing precision farming functions including MF Guide automatic steering, as well as MF Section Control and MF Rate Control, which can now handle and manage up to 96 sections, three booms and five products.
The pre-installed MF TaskDoc software allows farmers to create field records, log fuel use, make job reports as well as keep an accurate account of all inputs to every hectare.
