Massey launches MF 3700 specialist tractor range

Offers dedicated models for each specialist application including narrow and wide vineyard, fruit orchard, livestock and more

Massey Ferguson has announced the launch of its MF 3700 specialist workhorse series in Australia and New Zealand that will succeed the MF 3600 Xtra range.

The MF 3700 series will offer ranges dedicated to each specialist farming category, and now includes a brand new Wide Fruit model with a wider chassis for greater stability that Massey Ferguson said is also ideal for hillside vineyards and livestock farms with sloping fields.

“Farmers whose high value crops and challenging terrain present additional demands will benefit from even higher levels of specification, which can be precisely tailored to meet their individual requirements,” said Massey Ferguson product manager, John Horan.

“In addition, they will benefit from the extensive knowhow of our specialist engineers who have worked extremely hard on this impressive new range.”

Some of the new and improved features include a new generation stage 3B four-cylinder engine; more powerful hydraulic flow of up to 120 l/min; lower bonnet for better visibility; new factory fitted loader subframe, front PTO and front linkage for improved integration; new four-wheel drive sensor offering automatic engagement and disengagement of the four-wheel drive; new transmission controls; new styling and more.

The MF 3700 Series offers five configurations:

  • V = Vineyard – for use in traditional narrow vineyards, now offering a top speed of 40km/h.
  • S = Special - for more open vineyards with a slightly wider chassis with a more spacious cab for the operator.
  • F = Fruit – for use in more extensive vineyards and fruit orchards; a more substantial tractor with a wider front axle and more spacious cab.
  • GE = Ground Effect – (low profile) for use under trees, in polytunnels and in canopied vineyards. This version offers a wider front axle for greater stability.
  • WF = Wide Fruit – a wider tractor for use in orchards, also ideal for alpine farms, hillside vineyards and livestock operations. It offers a low centre of gravity and greater stability on slopes with a wider front and rear axle and a more spacious cab.

New gen engines

Under the bonnet is a new generation Stage 3B four-cylinder engine offering 75 to 105hp, delivering more power and torque. These Common Rail engines offer two engine rpm memories, allowing preferred engine speeds to be set for easier driving.

The redesigned power system layout now places the emissions control system outside the bonnet, allowing it to be lower, which improves the driver’s forward visibility.

A larger 74-litre fuel tank with an optional extra 30-litre tank minimises downtime for refuelling. Fuel tank access is now on the top of the bonnet for faster refuelling and easy access when a front implement is fitted.

The new engines offer longer service intervals of 600 hours for reduced service costs and downtime.

More spec choices

The MF 3700 Series is available in two specification packages.

Essential versions are available in cab and ROPS formats and feature a 24/12 Power Shuttle transmission, and hydraulics delivering 95 l/min flow with three rear mechanical spool valves and mechanical rear linkage.

The higher spec Efficient package is available for the first time on Massey Ferguson’s specialist tractor range, and is available on cab models only.

This package offers the 24/12 Power Shuttle transmission, up to 120 l/min hydraulic flow with two rear electronic spool valves and a mid-mounted spool valve delivering 45 l/min flow plus and electronic rear linkage and electronic linkage levelling.

To further tailor their tractor to particular crops or conditions, customers can also specify additional spool valves, front linkage and PTO, ‘loader ready’ built and more transmission choices for the Essential package.

More transmission choices

There is a choice of four different transmissions to suit the requirements of particular cropping or husbandry tasks: a 12/12 Mechanical Shuttle with a top speed of 30km/h; a 40km/h 24/24 Mechanical Shuttle with Mechanical Hi/Low; a 40km/h Mechanical Shuttle with Power Hi/Low and a 40km/h 24/12 Power Shuttle with Power Hi/Low as standard.

Transmission controls are now situated on the gear lever allowing the operator to select neutral, forward/reverse and high/low on one lever for improved control and ease of operation.

The standard 24/12 Power Shuttle version has unique joystick-mounted transmission buttons which group clutch, transmission and implement functions on one control.

More powerful hydraulics

The MF 3700 Series features significantly more powerful hydraulics than its predecessor for improved performance with implements such as loaders, trimmers and pruners, according to Massey Ferguson.

There is a choice of a twin pump delivering 95l/min at 2,300rpm (65l/min for auxiliaries) or at 1,800rpm (51l/min for auxiliaries); or a three pump system delivering 120l/min at 2,300rpm (95l/min for auxiliaries) or 1,800rpm (73l/min for auxiliaries), with the third pump dedicated to the rear lift and levelling.

Rear linkages have 2.5 and 3-tonne lift capacities and customers can specify between two to six spool valves to meet their needs.

The MF 3700 Series also offers a hydraulic trailer brake dual line for safe towing.

Front linkage and loader

A front linkage is available from the factory with options of front linkage only; front linkage with 540 PTO or front linkage with 1000 PTO. It is fully compatible with a front loader. The Cat II linkage lifts 1250 or 1680 kg depending on the tractor variant.

New for the MF 3700 WF, MF 3700 F and MF 3700 S is a factory-fitted loader subframe with mechanical joystick for Essential specification tractors and electrohydraulic joystick for Efficient versions.

More PTO options

A wide range of PTO options is available on the MF 3700 series including 540, 540 ECO, 1000rpm and Ground Speed packages.

A new 540/1000rpm PTO can now be specified to work in conjunction with the optional front linkage and power a range of front-mounted implements.

Higher spec four-wheel drive

The four-wheel drive system features a dog clutch engagement as standard, but can now be specified with an optional hydraulic clutch pack for demanding conditions, with benefits including less slippage and minimal wear and tear.

A new four-wheel drive sensor offers automatic engagement and disengagement of the four-wheel drive when the steering wheel is turned at a pre-set angle, for reduced operator effort at the headland.

Front axle suspension is also available for better operator comfort on rough ground.

Enhanced operator environment

Massey Ferguson has also redesigned the operator station on the MF 3700 series to offer better comfort. The foot throttle is now placed along the transmission tunnel in the cab for easy access.

A telescopic steering wheel is standard while a fixed steering wheel is optional and both have the option of additional tilting, allowing the operator to adjust it for optimum comfort.

The right hand console has been upgraded and revised to include engine memory switches, an electrohydraulic spool valve lock switch and Rockshift dial, plus finger switches for spool valves on the Efficient specification.

The MF 3700 Series also features a new digital instrument panel and digital radio.

The category two cabin is standard with air conditioning and air Grammer seat. An inside mirror and electric external mirrors are available as an option. New work lights are a further option, giving improved lighting when working around the clock at harvesting time.
