Massey launches self-propelled sprayer

MF 9130 Plus self-propelled sprayer marks Massey Ferguson Australia's first foray into crop protection

Following a successful stint in South America, Massey Ferguson’s MF 9130 Plus self-propelled sprayer has finally touched down in Australia and New Zealand.

Massey Ferguson says the entry-level machine is ideal for small to medium sized operations, and its affordable RRP of $289,900 plus GST may have farmers considering the unit over larger trailed sprayers.

The 210hp MF 9310 Plus was built at a facility in Canoas, Brazil and has been in the South American market for over six years where it has enjoyed great success.

Massey Ferguson product manager, Tim Oldaker, says the decision to build a machine in Brazil stems from the need for a competitively priced, straightforward machine strong enough to withstand arduous conditions faced by many South American farmers.

“The MF 9130 Plus definitively hit the mark in Latin America and we’re confident it will do the same in Australia and New Zealand,” he says.

“We have been putting one of the models to work in local conditions and it has been performing extremely well. It has impressed everyone who has spent time behind the wheel or looked it over on display.”

Unique transmission

A main feature of the MF 9130 Plus is a large capacity Bosch Rexroth hydrostatic transmission with three operating ranges. The transmission is coupled with Bosch Rexroth variable displacement wheel motors and final drives.

The new model is fully 4WD and has a cross-drive transmission system.

“It has two large capacity 90cc pumps that work together to maintain constant traction,” Oldaker says.

“One pump drives the front left and rear right wheel while the second pump drives the front right and rear left wheel.

“This ensures that if a wheel hits a wet patch and breaks traction or if the weight comes off one wheel in extreme undulations, all the other wheels continue driving to keep the machine moving forward. Some competitor machines do not have this feature.”

A unique feature of the MF 9130 Plus is the addition of a DA (double acting) valve to the transmission system. This allows the sprayer to run normally at reduced engine RPMs.

According to Oldaker, MF 9130’s engine can run at 1700 to 1800RPM while maintaining full torque for the engine and hydraulic system, unlike most hydrostatic machines.

“The obvious benefits are the machine’s excellent fuel efficiency and prolonged life of the sprayer’s hydraulic system,” he says.

The MF 9310 Plus self-propelled sprayer is powered by an AGCO Power six-cylinder Tier 3 engine, and comes with a 3000-litre commodity tank.

It features a 24m or 28m seven section boom with fence line nozzles, rate control and Norac boom levelling as standard.

Axle spacing is hydraulically adjustable form the cabin and autonomous auto steer comes as a standard feature.
