McCormick unveils new utility range

McCormick's new X5 series features a number of improvements including a redesigned cab, increased hydraulic flow, a larger fuel tank and upgraded transmission

Tractor specialist McCormick has lifted the lid on its X5 mid-range tractors with four models offering power outputs of 88.5 to 113hp.

The X5.20, X5.30, X5.40 and X5.50 are powered by new Perkins engines with two-valve technology, common-rail injection system and exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR).

McCormick has made several improvements on the range including a fully revamped four-post cab with flat-deck platform and rear hinged doors for ease of access to the driver's seat and good all-round vision.

Other improvements include increased hydraulic flow to a maximum of 93lt/min and a larger fuel tank with a capacity of 120lt.

The 16+16 creeper transmission with power shuttle and shuttle modulation control has an upgraded option of a 48+16 Xtrashift transmission with three-stage powershift providing a top speed of 40km/h at reduced engine revs.

Perkins engine

The X5 tractors are powered by the new Perkins 854E-E34TA series four-cylinder turbo after-cooled engines with power ratings from 88.5 to 113hp.

The 3.4-litre engines have two-valve cylinder heads and an electronic common-rail injection system. They use an innovative exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) and a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet Tier 4 Interim engine emission regulations.

McCormick says the electronic engine management, coupled with its Power Plus system allows the engines to deliver extra power and torque to handle demanding PTO and transport applications.

The first three models in the X5 range come standard with the Power Plus system.

The tilt-up hood has also been restyled to reflect McCormick's new family styling. It opens wide to provide easy access to the engine compartment for servicing.

Transmission

The X5 features a Speed Four transmission as standard with hydraulic power shuttle providing three ranges with four speeds each.

The basic gearbox can be combined with an Xtrashift transmission with three powershift ranges (high, medium and low) that can be shifted on the go using the green buttons integrated into the gear lever.

With the power shuttle, this configuration provides 36 forward and 12 reverse speeds. A creeper unit is available as an option to increase the total number of speeds to 48 forward and 16 reverse.

The De-Clutch orange button on the gear lever and the power shuttle lever adjacent to the steering wheel allow the driver to change gears and shift from forward to reverse without using the clutch pedal.

The power shuttle is equipped with shuttle modulation control, which adjusts the power shuttle response to suit operating conditions.

New deluxe slim cab

The new cab features a four-post design with flat-deck platform and rear hinged doors for ease of access and great all-round vision.

Controls are ergonomically arranged for operator comfort and a telescopic tilt adjustable steering column tilts along with the instrument panel so the driver can constantly monitor tractor operations.

Optionally, the operator station can be fitted with an air suspension seat for extra comfort. The air-conditioning system has been improved by relocating the filters into the rear posts for easier cleaning.

As a result, the cab roof has been redesigned with a slimmer profile allowing the tractor's overall height to be reduced.

A clear roof hatch provides extra visibility for loader work and four powerful halogen lights ensure sufficient illumination for night work.

The X5 range of tractors is also available with iso-mounted platforms that McCormick says are as comfortable and ergonomically designed as the cab versions.

Improved hydraulic capabilities

For the X5 series, McCormick has upgraded the hydraulic system to provide a maximum total flow of 93lt/min (power lift plus steering).

The system features four remote valves with lever controls placed to the driver's right. Two of the valves are controlled by a joystick and operate either a front loader or a front power lift, while the other two are controlled by levers.

The full range is now available via McCormick Tractor's Australian distributor, Clark Equipment. To find out more about the McCormick X5 tractor range, visit www.mccormicktractorsaustralia.com.au or call 1300 784 451.
