Miller Nitro launches lighter SP sprayer

New 7310 model is five per cent lighter than the 5240 it is replacing, thanks to a new adjustable chassis design

Spraying equipment expert Miller has introduced the Miller Nitro 7310 self-propelled sprayer model to the Australian market, which has a lighter weight for less compaction and better floatation.

The machine is expected to arrive in Australia in early 2018, and features a 2m ground clearance for late season spray applications.

The 7310 will replace the 5240 model and comes with a 4500-litre stainless steel tank; or a 3800-litre tank with 700-litre of direct chemical injection capacity for row crop farmers.

According to Jon Bent from McIntosh Distribution – Miller’s Australian distributor, a completely new, adjustable chassis design resulted in a five per cent lighter machine compared to the Nitro 5240, allowing for reduced compaction.

“Even weight distribution provides balance, with near equal load on each tyre to maximise power to the ground while minimising compaction,” he says.

“This would be particularly beneficial for cotton, corn, sorghum and sugar cane growers, as well as irrigated cropping paddocks, where multiple spraying applications can cause compaction concerns.”

The Nitro 7310 uses the innovative drive train system that has been one of the key features of Miller’s popular 6000 series sprayers, which Miller says provides maximum power and up to 30 per cent fuel savings compared to equivalent-sized machines.

“The drive train was redesigned with a variable displacement hydrostatic drive system and planetary torque hubs, providing faster responses to speed changes through more efficient transfer of power to the ground, even at lower engine RPM,” Bent says.

The planetary system is electronically controlled and provides a handful of new features including full-time traction control, cruise control, anti-stall, integrated speed limiting and four driver-programmable speed settings.

The Miller Nitro 7310 is powered by a 6.7-litre, 310hp Tier 2 engine and offers a 56km/h road speed with four-wheel dynamic braking.

A variable speed, hydraulic-driven cooling fan runs only as fast as it needs to, saving power and fuel while reducing noise.

The 7310 is available with a full range of boom options, including a 48.5m Pommier RA Falcon boom and Miller’s unique Spray-Air boom.

The Spray-Air boom is suitable for a wide variety of crops, including cereals, canola, pulses, corn, cotton and sorghum.

It allows for more targeted chemical applications through air-assist and air-atomisation technology, forming one powerful spray nozzle system. Growers have fingertip control of the droplet size and speed of the air delivery for any spraying application.

They can atomise spray droplets between 200-500 millimetres per minute per nozzle – spaced 25cm apart.

Bent adds the Spray-Air helps growers reduce water rates considerably without compromise on spraying results, meaning growers can spend more time spraying and less time filling.

The new 7310 also comes with Active Hydralink suspension for a smoother ride, and a new, ultra-quiet cab for maximum comfort, control and convenience, Miller says.

Luxury cab options include a 12-volt cooler under the leather instructor seat, rear camera and auto on and off headlights.

Miller has redesigned the lift arms, removed certain components and equipped the 7310 with large wrap-around windows for better visibility.

Monitoring systems on the 7310 have also been improved. Operating functions including speed, RPM, pressures, temperatures and fuel level, as well as a spray info bar with light-up section display showing which boom sections are operating, are now mounted on the ceiling to avoid disrupting operators’ line of sight.

A right hand console chassis monitor, mounted on an adjustable swing arm, allows operators to easily program and control multiple sprayer functions, which are displayed on the monitoring screen.

“With the significant chassis changes and new features through to small alterations right across the machine, it all adds up to a brand new Miller sprayer,’’ Bent says.
