Western Australian sheep farmers Allan and Tracey Wilson were looking for an intuitive application to simplify the job of managing their flock. When they couldn't find a suitable app, they designed their own – and MyMobTracker was born.
The MyMobTracker app has already been downloaded by over 1000 users and is essentially a recording website and mobile app tool to help sheep farmers keep track of their stock movements and farming actions. The app also tracks water quality and quantity and automatically calculates stocking rates.
"The idea for a simple notebook-style app came about from necessity," Tracey tells farmmachinerysales.com.au.
"In our farm enterprise, easily sharing information between principal, manager and work staff regarding stock movements, actions and treatments was a problem without a solution. There are a lot of farm management-type apps available, but nothing sheep centric with the ability to immediately record, store and share details in real time."
MyMobTracker claims to be an accurate way to keep on top of treatment records. Using a drop-down menu, farmers can record dips, drenches and vaccines, even down to the batch number. The app also includes a sales and purchase function, to record stock bought and sold, and has the capacity to enter National Vendor Declaration codes to aid traceability.

"We're about to enter our busiest period of sheep management and movement, with as many as 20 mobs to manipulate. MyMobTracker means all farm staff will know exactly what's happened to every mob as soon as it's happened, and as principal I will know what they've done and when they've done it, simply by viewing the activity log," says Allan.
"It means everyone at the farm knows exactly what's occurred and where all sheep are. It also creates a historical record of the enterprise. It's the modern version of the old notebook in the ute: it's your flock in your pocket!"
According to Tracey, the reaction from sheep growers throughout Australia has been "overwhelmingly positive," and the app is regularly updated to refine functionality.
MyMobTracker is available for a free three-month trial period; information on how to download the app can be found at www.mymobtracker.com.au.
Allan and Tracey Wilson will showcase the MyMobTracker app at the Dowerin field days in Western Australia on August 30 and 31.
