CLAAS has revealed its next generation ARION 600/500 tractors which come with a series of new features, making it highly customisable for any job on the farm.
The range carries seven models with power output ranging from 125 to 205hp, which according to CLAAS, make them ideal for a broad range of cropping, mowing, baling, transport and front-end loader work.
The four ARION 600 models are equipped with a six-cylinder DPS engine, while the three ARION 500 models are equipped with a four-cylinder DPS engine.
Both meet Stage IV (Tier 4) emissions standards thanks to a combination of a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), diesel particulate filter (DPF) and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) converter.
"Despite the inclusion of an AdBlue tank, the diesel tank capacity has been increased slightly," says CLAAS Harvest Centre Group Product Manager for Tractors, Dave Knowles.
"In the 600 series, the engine idling speed automatically reduces from 800 to 650rpm when the tractor is stationary, delivering additional fuel savings."
The series includes a choice of HEXASHIFT powershift or CMATIC continuously variable transmissions.
"The HEXASHIFT unit has undergone further development for optimal performance under practical conditions and offers a wide range of new functions," Knowles says.
"These include a cruise control function that automatically maintains the forward speed selected by the driver. When the brake pedal is pressed, the SMART STOP function automatically disengages the transmission without using the clutch pedal.
"This reduces the driver’s workload, especially during clutch-intensive tasks such as front-end loader work and baling."
The CMATIC transmission features new software for improved engine-transmission coordination.
"The driver can switch between two saved engine droop values simply by pressing a button, allowing transmission to adjust more rapidly to the job in hand," Knowles explains.
All ARION 600/500 models are available with the electronic PARKLOCK parking brake on the REVERSHIFT shuttle lever. It activates once the driver leaves the seat to prevent the tractor and any attached implement from rolling away.
The ARION 600/500 can be opted with a choice of three operating systems: the basic CLAAS Information System (CIS), the intermediate CLAAS Information System Plus (CIS+) or the advanced CLAAS Electronic on-Board Information System (CEBIS).
"CIS has been kept deliberately simple with up to six mechanical spool valves and the tried-and-trusted CIS display," Knowles explains.
"The new CIS+ offers electronic spool valves in combination with the CIS colour display. It is an intermediate system that is aimed at customers who want greater convenience and efficiency but do not need all the functionality of the CEBIS system.
"Importantly, it offers customers the option of using the CMATIC continuously variable transmission without the CEBIS system."
CIS and CIS+ both utilise a multi-function armrest that incorporates the ELECTROPILOT four-way control lever and DRIVESTICK control lever.
The updated CEBIS operating system features a new 12-inch touch-screen display and an ergonomic armrest incorporating the CMOTION multi-function control lever.
"This system provides convenient operation of all the main functions using just the thumb and two fingers," Knowles says.
In addition to the previous load-sensing hydraulics delivering 110l/min, there is a new version with a 150l/min flow rate.
All next-gen models can be fitted with the new PROACTIV front axle suspension which CLAAS says provides a smooth ride even when driving at high speeds or with heavy implements attached.
The optional CLAAS dynamic steering system allows fast and easy handling at headlands or during steering-intensive work, such as front-end loader operations.
For the cab, customers can choose between the five-pillar cab or deluxe four-pillar cab found on the larger AXION 900 and 800 models.
Both cabins offer the same amount of space, a continuous front window and all-round visibility.
CLAAS' next generation ARION 600/500 series tractors will be available to order in New Zealand and Australia from early 2018.
