New CLAAS system offers headland guidance

Innovative system automatically identifies the next track and guides machinery during headland turns

CLAAS has launched a new auto guidance system for its range of machines which it claims helps operators make headland turns quickly, easily and accurately.

The CLAAS TURN IN system has been designed to automatically identify the next track and then guide machinery during headland turns, which can be hard to do in normal circumstances without fixed reference points.

"Starting at an angle of 90 degrees to the track, TURN IN identifies the optimum path to follow based on the machine’s speed, steering lock and alignment," says CLAAS Harvest Centre Product Manager for Precision Farming, Travis Ryan-Salter.

"The system then guides the machine onto the next track automatically using a pre-defined path to achieve the desired turn."

Drivers can also choose to override the system any time.

"The system will identify a new track and path as soon as the driver changes speed, steering lock or other factors," Ryan-Salter says.

The TURN IN system can be fitted on to all CLAAS steering systems that utilise the S7 or S10 terminal, which includes CLAAS' LEXION combine harvesters, JAGUAR forage harvesters, as well as CLAAS' XERION, AXION and ARION tractors.

"Existing steering systems can be retrofitted by means of an activation code," Ryan-Salter adds.
