Segway quad bikes arrive in Australia

With the second phase of the new quad safety rules set to be implemented in October, powersports company, Segway, is launching a new range of ATVs in Australia.

Segway said its new machines comply with the new regulations and will come fitted with a Quadbar roll bar.

Segway originally specialised in self-balancing two-wheel transport, but since being acquired by Chinese company, Ninebot, it has branched out into other areas such as ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles.

The company’s Australian distributor, Urban Moto Imports, has released information and pricing for its new Snarler AT6 S and Snarler AT6 L.

Both models are available in three different specifications. The S has a shorter wheelbase and is suitable for one person, while the L has a bigger towing and payload capacity, as well as capability to carry a passenger.

The Snarler AT6 series is designed for agricultural and recreational uses, and features a 570cc 4-stroke single-cylinder engine, electronic fuel injection, on-demand 2WD and 4WD, Smart EPS (optional), dual A-arm suspension front and rear, adjustable front and rear air shocks, and a high-strength chromoly steel frame.

Customers can also specify a hybrid powertrain with their new Snarler.

Also standard is Segway’s T-Box system, which utilises 4G, Bluetooth and CAN communication to provide a wide range of data, safety features, and remote control. The bikes are also equipped with the Smart Command System, which includes a colour TFT display.

The AT6 S starts at $9,790 in base trim, with EPS taking the price up to $11,790, and the full-spec version checking in at $12,790. The AT6 L begins at $10,190, with the EPS version costing $12,190 and the full-fruit version, $13,190.

There are currently plans to introduce more models, including a range of UTVs, into the Australian market.

Australia is the only country to have made roll-over protection mandatory on quad bikes, and many major ATV manufacturers have departed the local market as a result. Segway’s compliance means that, from October this year, it must fit roll-over protection to all its quad bikes sold in Australia, as well as fit warning labels.

All quad bikes must also under go roll over testing, with 28.81 degrees the minimum measure for a safe vehicle. The Snarler AT6 passes with a result of 33 degrees.
