Segway is perhaps best known for its range of self-balancing personal transporters that have been around since the early 2000s.
It wasn’t until 2019 that Segway, along with new parent company Ninebot, dipped its toes into the powersports market producing a range of quad bikes, side-by-sides and off-road bikes.
Today, Segway’s powersports range is available in Australia through distributor, Urban Moto Imports.
At a time when a large number of manufacturers have exited or will soon bow out of the Australian ATV market due to the imposing of new regulations, Segway has entered the scene with all guns blazing with its Snarler quad bikes.
The Snarler AT6 is available in two configurations – AT6 S which has a shorter wheelbase and is suitable for one person, and the AT6 L that has a bigger towing and payload capacity, as well as capability to carry a passenger.
Both models are available in three specifications – Naked, EPS and Full Spec. Naked is the bare bones variant with all the essentials but without the bells and whistles. The EPS variant offers a bit more including features such as Smart EPS, handlebar guards and a 2500lbs winch. The Full Spec version, as it name suggests, has everything a quad bike enthusiast wants and needs including LED lights, beadlock rim and slightly larger tyres.
Some standard features include a 570cc 4-stroke single-cylinder engine, electronic fuel injection, on-demand 2WD and 4WD, dual A-arm suspension front and rear, adjustable front and rear air shocks, and a high-strength chromoly steel frame.
Towing capacities are 300kg for the AT6 S and 350kg for the AT6 L. The AT6 S has a payload capacity of 175kg while the AT6 L can carry almost 100kg more, rated at 270kg.
The Snarler AT6 has a power output of 44hp and 48Nm of torque. Customers can also specify a hybrid powertrain with their new Snarler.
Also standard is Segway’s T-Box system, which utilises 4G, Bluetooth and CAN communication to provide a wide range of data, safety features, and remote control. The bikes are also equipped with the Smart Command System, which includes a colour TFT display.
Those who like to ride in style will be pleased to find there are several colour schemes to choose from including Innovative Blue and Grey, Electric Red and White, and Bold Green and Black.
Safety also plays a huge part in the design of the Snarler. Segway said the Snarler AT6 range complies with the latest Quad Bike Safety Standard that came into effect in October 2020.
As the second phase is set to be enforced from October 2021, Segway said its Snarler range will come fitted with a Quadbar roll bar.
In addition, operators can add details of an emergency contact person via the mobile app. In the event of a quad bike accident or rollover, an SMS will be sent automatically to the emergency contact notifying them of the incident as well as the operator’s location.
The AT6 S starts at $9,790 in base trim, with EPS taking the price up to $11,790, and the full-spec version checking in at $12,790. The AT6 L begins at $10,190, with the EPS version costing $12,190 and the full-fruit version, $13,190.
