Share a message of hope with Aussie farmers

Aussies urged to write digital letters to farmers using #DearFarmer to show appreciation in tough times

The last few years have been extremely challenging for Australian farmers as they have been hit hard by a string of natural disasters one after the other. First the drought, then the bushfires and even before the dust settled, the COVID-19 pandemic took hold.

However, no matter the condition, farmers have soldiered on and worked hard to ensure Australians have enough food on their tables. That is why, rural charity organisation - RuralAid decided to launch its #DearFarmer campaign to encourage everyday Australians to share words of support for farmers to let them know they are appreciated.

“We’d like to show our farmers and rural communities that we see and value them especially in uncertain times,” said Rural Aid CEO, John Warlters.

Rural Aid ran a similar campaign in December 2018 and said response was overwhelming and heart-warming.

“Over Christmas 2018, we sent over 3000 letters written by school children to our farmers,” Warlters said.

“Some were written in crayon, others covered in glitter, but all had the same heartfelt message – letting farmers know how much they are appreciated.

“The response from farmers was incredible. Many spoke of the tears they shed reading their letters and their gratitude to the many school children who were thinking of them.”

Following the successful campaign, Rural Aid decided to move the initiative online so it can reach as many people as possible.

“As we experience challenging times, our farmers continue to put food on our tables. Panic buying may put strain on our supply chains, but our farmers continue to have our backs by supplying beautiful Australian produce," Warlters said.

“We’re asking Australians of all ages to show their Aussie spirit and share a note of hope on their favourite social media channel with a farmer going through tough times rebuilding after fires, flood and drought.

“We can’t make it rain, but we can take a moment to sit down and write a note, or draw a picture, for our farmers.”
