The tractor market has gotten off to subdued start in 2025, with just over 550 units sold in the first month of the year, down 15 per cent against the same month last year, according to the Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia's (TMA) latest sales figures.
“Dealers have been reporting that order enquiry has been solid but with extreme weather conditions being felt in various parts of the country, it is perhaps no surprise that deliveries were down,” said TMA executive director, Gary Northover.
“Expectations of a flattening out of sales remain as we try and not place too much emphasis on one month’s numbers.”
The state-by-state picture is as follows:
Meanwhile, sales across all reporting categories also suffered dips except for the under 40hp segment:
Additionally, the TMA reported it wasn’t just tractors that did it tough as sales of combine harvesters also lagged behind, falling 35 per cent behind last year.
“With less than 700 combines sold last year, the industry is certainly hoping for a better year in 2025,” Northover said.
Baler sales were also well down in the month and sits 57 per cent behind for the year, while sales of out-front mowers were also down 30 per cent compared to the same month last year.
