Tractor of the Year finalists announced

European premier tractor awards welcomes the return of familiar names and a handful of newcomers

For the second year in a row, the Tractor of the Year finalists have been announced in a virtual live stream event this week which saw several new names in the running for the prestigious annual award.

As per previous years, there are four categories up for contention in Tractor of the Year 2022. The main award is the eponymous Tractor of the Year award- which will go to the best open field tractor (no horsepower limit imposed). The second category is Best Utility which will go to the best multi-function tractor with horsepower over 70hp. Third category is Best of Specialised which recognises the best tractor for vineyard and orchard use, and last but not least is the Sustainable Tractor of the Year which awards the best machine in terms of sustainability and efficiency.

The TotY fionalists were announced at a virtual event streamed live from Italy on June 23

From here, a panel of experts consisting of agricultural journalists from around Europe will convene and decide on a winner based on a series of criteria including engine, transmission, hydraulics, comfort, design, connectivity and more.

“This year too, TotY will be fascinating and full of surprises,” said Tractor of the Year President, Fabio Zammaretti.

“As always the evaluation of the tractors in competition will be based on precise technical parameters, with a particular focus on innovation and sustainability.”

Massey Ferguson's 8S.265 was named Tractor of the Year 2021.

While the finalists were announced virtually this week, the Tractor of the Year committee hopes to present the awards to the winners in person at the EIMA agricultural trade expo in Bologna, Italy, that will run from October 19 to 23, 2021.

The finalist and winning tractor models are also expected to be on display at the show later this year.

The Tractor of the Year awards was once again sponsored by tyre specialist, BKT, this year.

“It is very important to be here because this is where the major agricultural issues are discussed: from sustainability to autonomous transport, from data management to analysis to optimise and increase the efficiency of operations” said BKT Europe CEO, Lucia Salmaso.

“Tractors mean everything in agriculture and tires mean everything for tractors. They are the only contact point with the land, the object which transforms tractor power into traction. TotY is the right place for us.

“The possibility of meeting all together again in a single place certainly adds further impetus to the challenge. We are hi-tech, that is true, but we are also human and it is this human passion for the agriculture of today and tomorrow which unites us. See you in Bologna!”
