November 2024 was another flat month for agricultural tractor sales as dealers continue to report depressed demand across the nation, the Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia (TMA) reported.
With just under 1000 tractors sold in the month – to make it just on 10,000 delivered this year– the market is now in the red by 24 per cent year to date (YTD).
With only December 2024 activity to come, calendar year sales will finish at or below 11,000 tractors, the TMA predicts, which will be the lowest level since 2019.
Across the different authorities, all states were down except for Western Australia which saw a rise of 14 per cent compared to November 2023 but remains 11 per cent behind YTD. The other results were as follows:
Unsurprisingly, sales in all the reporting categories were also sluggish in November:
Sales of combine harvesters currently lag 27 per cent behind YTD. Baler sales were steady in the month and are eight per cent behind YTD. Finally, sales of out-front mowers were up 12 per cent for the month as mowing season gathers momentum.
Meanwhile, the Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia (TMA) released its quarterly business sentiment survey in November, with cautious optimism that tractor sales will begin to point north in 2025 – albeit only incrementally – while the market for combines and balers will remain flat.
