Finnish tractor manufacturer, Valtra, has pulled the covers off its G series utility tractors offering 100 to 145hp and a full suite of precision farming capabilities.
The series will sit between the A and N series in Valtra’s tractor range and is the first line-up from Valtra’s 5th generation tractors to be released to the public.
The G series inherits the SmartTouch controls from its larger siblings, the N, T and S series, and is available in four equipment levels: Basic, Comfort, Technology and Technology Pro. Customers will also be able to customise their G series tractors with tailored features from the Unlimited Studio at the factory.
With the launch of the G series, Valtra has announced three new stunning colours customers can choose to have their machines painted in –olive green, metallic bronze and turquoise. Otherwise, customers can also opt for more generic colours including black and red.
Via the Valtra Unlimited studio, customers can specify any amount of accessories to customise their tractor, including special paint jobs, additional lights, extra hydraulics and more to suit their applications and personal taste.
“The G series is typically an all-purpose farm tractor that can be used for front-loader tasks, spraying, producing feed and cultivating vegetables using smart farming techniques, for example,” said Valtra Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Mikko Lehikoinen.
“Operating an all-purpose tractor like this should be easy and safe with comfortable working conditions, a powerful front linkage and hydraulics, and excellent visibility. Altogether, the G Series is compact but still powerful.”

The new G Series is powered by a four-cylinder 4.4-litre AGCO Power engine. The compact size of the engine enables a very low nose for excellent front visibility.
The engine complies with Stage V emission standards without exhaust gas recirculation. An electronic wastegate and 1600 bar Bosch common rail injection offer fast response and plenty of torque across a broad range of engine speeds, Valtra said.
All models offer power boost already at field speeds when driving in B5 or higher gears. Valtra’s traditional Sigma Power boost is also available for the PTO.
The G125 Eco features an Eco mode that lowers engine speed while increasing torque up to 555Nm.
The G Series has a 24x24R transmission with four ranges and six Powershift gears. The shifts from B to C range and between C and D ranges are automated for an easier operation, especially on roads.
In traditional Valtra fashion, the parking brake is integrated with the forward-reverse shuttle lever, and the driver can also program the transmission settings. The slowest working speed with the creeper gear is 120m/h, which is ideal for horticultural applications, for example.
The G series tractors are available in three configurations – Active, Versu and HiTech with each offering different hydraulic capabilities and driving functions.
Versu models can be operated using just the drive lever. An AutoTraction hill-hold function on all models keeps the tractor stationary even on steep hills without the operator having to use the brakes.
HiTech models have an open hydraulics system that produces 100l/min, while Active and Versu models have load-sensing hydraulics that produce 110l/min. Up to four hydraulic blocks are available at both the front and rear. Versu models are available with up to five rear spool valves and up to four valves in the front.
The minimum lifting power at the rear is 50kN and 30kN at the front across the entire range. Front PTO is also available while ground speed PTO is available at the rear along with two additional PTO speeds.
The G Series has a spacious cab with 5.7 square metres of glass, including 0.35 square metres in the panoramic roof. Cab suspension, heated mirrors, air conditioning and a cab heater all come standard for enhanced comfort.
Versu models with the SmartTouch interface can access the same SmartFarming features as the bigger N and T series models. Active models are available with autoguidance and precision farming features that can be activated via the SmartTouch Extend terminal.
Valtra said its G series has been designed for front loader operations. Some of the features that aid in this application include all-round visibility, optimum weight distribution, a front-loader that is integrated with the chassis, a hydraulics assistant that automatically increases the engine speed, and a Live 3 feature that enables the simultaneous use of up to three different front-loader functions.
The G series, more specifically the Versu and Active models, can be equipped with the same precision farming features as Valtra’s larger models. They include automated steering and Valtra Connect telemetry which allows tractor data to be shared easily with service technicians and farm offices.
Along with the launch of the G series, Valtra is also now offering a new Wayline Assistant option that works in conjunction with the Valtra Guide automated steering on G, N, T and S Series models (100–400hp). Wayline Assistant significantly enhances automated steering by making it simple to store individual, meandering waylines in the memory, Valtra said. This is particularly useful when applying pesticide and fertiliser.
“Wayline Assistant is the best new feature in the Valtra Guide automated steering system since it was first launched,” said Valtra Technology Product Specialist, Johan Grotell.
“It makes all field tasks easier, especially on smaller and irregular fields. Our customers are doing a good job adopting the new features that we launched at the start of 2020, and most SmartTouch systems are now specified with these features.”
Wayline Assistant also allows operators to create segmented waylines manually, either from existing waylines or according to the edges of the field. If there are multiple waylines criss-crossing the field, the automated steering selects the most appropriate wayline.
Wayline Assistant is available as an option on new Valtra tractors, and it can also be retrofitted to models equipped with the SmartTouch armrest and auxiliary screen.
In addition to field and farmyard tasks, the G Series is also suitable for forestry tasks, Valtra said. For forestry tasks, the G Series can be specified with options such as narrow mudguards, steel fuel tank, polycarbonate glass, forest tyres, a rotating seat and cab protection via Valtra’s Unlimited studio. The auxiliary light pack provides four working lights at the front and six at the rear, which turn on automatically when reversing.
The G series is now available in Valtra’s key markets such as Finland, United Kingdom and Germany. Valtra has kicked off its Smart Tour in Europe where it will be showcasing the brand new tractors across the continent in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Portugal, France and Spain.
Valtra anticipates the first units of the new G series to arrive in Australia sometime in the first quarter of 2021.
