VIDEO: Deutz Fahr 9340 TTV debuts in Oz

New 9 series takes over the 7250 as Deutz Fahr's new Australian tractor flagship

Deutz Fahr's most powerful tractor range yet, the 9 series, recently had its official Australian unveiling at the 2016 Elmore Machinery Field Days.

Standing tall and turning heads at the show, the range-topping 336hp 9340 TTV features a "new from the ground up" design which Australian distributor PFG Australia says focuses on automation and operator comfort.

Its sleek look was the work of famed Italian design house Giugiaro Design, which in 2015 clinched the coveted 'Golden Tractor' design award for its work on the Deutz Fahr 9 series.

A bigger engine, better styling, improved front axle suspension and more advanced technologies were just some of the upgrades when compared with the 263hp 7250 TTV model.

Speaking at the Elmore field days, Deutz Fahr product manager Anthony Darveniza says the tractor has been tried and tested for over four years in Europe and has been tweaked to suit the Australian market prior to its arrival here.

"The main difference of this tractor here in Australia compared to the European version, is there are no diesel particulate filter (DPF) or Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems fitted to this tractor, meaning no AdBlue or additional emission controls, which is ideal for the Australian market," he says.

A 7.8-litre Deutz Fahr six-cylinder engine powers the 9 series. It operates a twin-stage turbocharger using Deutz common rail technology and exhaust gas recirculation to provide Tier III emissions compliance.

The 9 series, which offers three models altogether, inherited Deutz Fahr's proven TTV continuously variable transmission currently available in the brand's higher horsepower tractor line-ups.

"The variable transmission is mechanically controlled rather than using hydrostatic power, so you get optimum efficiency from the engine to the transmission which develops better fuel consumption figures," Darveniza says.

A range of transmission options are available providing a maximum road speed of 60km/h.

The 9 series also features a new Dana suspended front axle for improved comfort and a smoother ride.

"For the size of the tractor, the wheelbase is still quite big so you've got the stability, but it's still short enough that it doesn’t stick out the front like some American tractors," Darveniza says.

Deutz Fahr has equipped the 9 series with a plethora of technologies including GPS systems, a Tractor Implement Management (TIM) system and ISOBUS to improve efficiency.

"It's got all the bells and whistles on it, but it's still user-friendly, which is the other key concept of Deutz," Darveniza says.

The 9 series is capable of lifting 12 tonnes at the rear and 5 tonnes at the front to tow and operate the heaviest of implements.

Closed-end hydraulics providing 160 litres/min of flow comes standard with the 9340 TTV, alongside four sets of remotes. Customers can opt for a bigger hydraulic pump if required.

Three PTO speeds at the rear (540 Eco, 1000 and 1000 Eco) and 1000 and 1000 Eco at the front also come standard on the 9 series.

The redesigned MaxiVision II cab is pneumatically suspended and isolated from the hood so engine heat, vibration and noise do not reach the cabin.

Inside the cab, controls are colour coded for easy identification as per Deutz Fahr's entire tractor family, as well as ergonomically placed within easy reach for the operator.

The addition of a new panoramic windscreen and redesigned front bonnet offers unrestricted views of the operator's surroundings.

A large and clear touch screen terminal named iMonitor displays essential functionalities and data including GPS and rear camera views. Operators can freely assign button controls throughout the armrest via the iMonitor when operating an implement via ISOBUS.

The 9 Series is fully integrated with Deutz Fahr’s Agrosky GPS system, which has the ability to operate with a repeatable accuracy of 2cm. Section and rate controls are standard features in the Agrosky operating system, which is controlled via the iMonitor.

An electronically operated power bonnet using a button near the cabin steps allows operators to quickly open and close the bonnet for easy access to the engine bay and to daily servicing points including radiators and fuel coolers.

A comprehensive LED light package offers optimum lighting for night work.

The 9340 TTV comes with a price tag of $314,900 plus GST.

"This is a premium-end tractor with all the creature comforts. From the pneumatic cab suspension to the front axle suspension and 60km road speeds…it's got all the things that you want as an operator," Darveniza says.
