Local manufacturer, Gason has released its largest fertiliser spreader - a 12.8-tonner at the 2017 Elmore Field Days. The machine was also named the runner up in the Australian Machine of the Year award handed out at the event.
A new feature is the addition of an attachment at the back of the spreader which allows the spreading of urea and other pelletised fertilisers out to a width of 36m.
The removable attachment is currently only available on the larger spreader models, which are the 9.4-tonne and 12.8-tonne spreaders, however Gason says there are plans to fix the attachment on the smaller units in the range.
Gason’s spreader capacities range from three tonnes to 12.8 tonnes.
If operators wish to spread other fertilisers such as lime and gypsum, they can simply unbolt the attachment to spread out to widths of up to 24m.
For the spreader floor, Gason has opted for a slat-style chain design for an even distribution.
“We believe that chain drive is the way to go because there are no belts, therefore there is no slippage,” says Gason sales territory manager, Brett Jackson.
Customers can option up the 12.8-tonne spreader with variable rate technology (VRT), ground drive or load cells for improved productivity. With the VRT, users are able to connect the spreader with their own controller to run variable rate application via prescription maps or manually change the rate of application from their tractor cabs.
Other options include a roll over tarp kit, rear tail lights, hydraulic trailer brakes, heavy duty manure spinners and 3m controlled traffic axles.
A base model 12.8-tonne Gason fertiliser spreader costs $66,000 plus GST.
In addition to agricultural implements, Gason also manufactures woodheaters and the Trakmaster range of off-road caravans from its facility in Ararat, Victoria.
