After releasing the RP 160 V variable chamber round baler 12 months ago to much success, Lely Australia has followed up with the launch of its big brother, the RP 180 V which produces bales up to 1.8m in width.
According to Lely Australia, the new baler will cater to larger operations with its ability to pump out larger bales.
“The RP 160 V is the more popular baler, mainly for transportation purposes,” says Lely Australia National Sales Manager, David Allan.
“But for larger scale dairy farmers who are doing their fodder conservation on farm and don’t have the need to cart bales up and down the road, they like to make bigger bales so they get less feed out and more in storage so it’s cheaper and more efficient, especially with the amount of net and cartage used.”

The RP 180 V comes in two configurations – the entry level RP 180 V Classic and the RP 180 V Master with knives for chopping.
A 2.25m camless pick-up is standard across all models. Cleverly designed segment plates and the short distance from the pick-up to the rotor helps ensure excellent crop throughput.
A brand new bale chamber design helps improve the bale formation process from the start. The range also features Lely's Constant Pressure System (CPS), which ensures the balers deliver high density and well-shaped bales.
Other features include split gearbox, E-link Control terminal and bale ejector.
Lely Australia had the new RP 180 V out on display at the Elmore Machinery Field Days in October this year, under its new management, AGCO. Earlier this year, Lely agreed to sell its forage division to AGCO while still maintaining its dairy equipment portfolio.
According to Allan, the acquisition will not affect Lely Australia’s parts and services offering.
“If you’ve already got Lely products, or are looking at a new one, the same local Lely dealers are the people to talk to for all your needs, today and going forward,” Allan says.
The Lely Welger RP 180 V balers are priced from $67,500 plus GST.
