Local tracks manufacturer Vimcor’s newest development - a hub mounted track undercarriage is aimed at farmers who run a variety of machinery on their farms and wish to minimise soil disturbance.
The system allows farmers to transfer the tracks from chaser bin to seeder, for example, in under 60 minutes using basic tools and a forklift or front end loader.
While the concept is not new, Vimcor claims to be the first Australian manufacturer to produce this system for the local market. Vimcor is part of the Davimac Group which has been manufacturing chaser bins and various ag implements in Australia for over 40 years.

Vimcor’s hub-mounted undercarriage made one of its first public outings at the 2017 Henty Machinery field days in September.
According to Vimcor and Davimac Managing Director, Shannon McNab, the tracks are designed to mount on to equipment with 10 or 12 stud hubs, which means they will suit most makes and models of chaser bins, planters or sprayers.
“We make this in two different sizes - either with a 24-inch wide track, which is ideal for your row crop use, or 36-inch wide which is really good for flotation,” he says.
“We originally developed it to go on our Davimac chaser bins and we’ve received quite a lot of interest from people wanting to fit the tracks on to their existing chaser bins, super spreaders or boom sprays.”
The tracks feature a strong reinforced frame with a handling capability of up to 35 tonnes. Each track is mounted on two track-end wheels and supported by two track mid-wheels.

“The hubs are considerably heavier and bigger than other track units on the market, both in the idler wheels and bogie wheels,” McNab says.
“Track tension is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder with an accumulator which keeps plenty of pressure on the tracks.”
He adds a handful of farmers are currently trialling the system and have found it to be very durable.
“Farmers who have so far used the tracks have commented on the heavy duty design and smoothness of the operation,” McNab says.
“Those who have seen our track systems working are impressed with how well the track undercarriages turn and how little soil disturbance there is. This is due to the very large 4.16 square metre track footprint (36-inch track undercarriage) which greatly reduces soil pressure.
“It’s very well built, has very large hubs, and is manufactured in Australia which means parts can be easily sourced.”
At this point, Vimcor will be continuing with its field trials of the hub mounted track undercarriage and will further tweak it where necessary before releasing it on to the market in December 2017.
