Kubota M7-4 lands with new tech and operator upgrades

Latest evolution of Kubota’s mid-horsepower tractor range brings a host of operator-focused updates while retaining the familiar M7 formula

Kubota has used the 2026 Henty Machinery Field Days to give Australian farmers their first close-up look at the new M7-4, with the range now focused on the 150hp and 170hp classes.

The launch follows more than a decade of M7 operation in Australia, with Kubota describing the M7-4 as an evolution rather than a complete rethink of the platform.

Australia skips the M7-3 generation offered in Europe, moving directly from the M7-2 to the M7-4, while retaining much of the familiar design, engine and transmission philosophy of its predecessor.

Speaking to farmmachinerysales at Henty, Kubota Tractor Australia senior product manager, Konstantin Blersch, said the company had seen strong interest in the new tractors during the event.

“We had our current M7 customers join us for the official launch of the M7-4. It was a really nice atmosphere, with plenty of good conversations and customers sharing their experiences with us.”

Blersch said inquiries for the M7-4 remained strong throughout the field days.

Simplified line-up

As previously reported, the Australian M7-4 range comprises the M7-154 and M7-174, producing 148hp and 168hp respectively.

The previous 130hp option has been dropped, with Kubota instead concentrating the M7-4 around the 150hp to 170hp segment. The range is offered in Deluxe, Premium and Premium KVT configurations.

Blersch said the Deluxe remains the straightforward option for operators who favour mechanical controls, while Premium models add electro-hydraulic controls, an upgraded armrest and an ISOBUS-compatible K-Monitor.

Kubota says the simpler configuration has historically been the most popular M7 specification, particularly for mixed fleets where ease of operation for different drivers remains important.

For operators requiring greater hydraulic control, the Premium configuration allows functions including hydraulic flow rates, timers and priority to be adjusted through the monitor.

The K-Monitor can also act as an ISOBUS universal terminal, allowing compatible implements to be controlled through the tractor's existing display rather than requiring another monitor in the cab.

Operator-focused upgrades

Among the more practical changes introduced with the M7-4 is Kubota's Xpress Restart function on semi-powershift models.

The system allows the operator to slow and stop the tractor using the brake pedals without needing to use the clutch, before moving off again when the brakes are released – a feature aimed particularly at repetitive work such as front-end loader operation.

KVT models meanwhile gain an active park brake, while shuttle and PTO engagement can also be adjusted to provide a softer or more aggressive response depending on the job and operator preference.

Under the bonnet, Kubota has also revised the radiator arrangement and air intake with an eye towards easier cleaning and operation in dusty conditions.

The cooling package provides access between the individual components for cleaning, while the bonnet can be opened from ground level and is supported by gas struts.

Built for different jobs

At the rear, the M7-4 offers a three-point linkage with a lift capacity of up to 9.8 tonnes, while four-speed PTO provides 540, 540 Eco, 1000 and 1000 Eco settings.

Hydraulic flow is rated at 110l/min across the range, with the key difference between specifications being how those hydraulics are controlled.

Premium tractors can also be configured with up to five hydraulic remotes, while ISOBUS and Power Beyond capability allow more sophisticated implements to draw hydraulic power from the tractor while managing their functions through the M7-4’s display.

At the top of the range, the 170hp Premium KVT displayed at Henty was fitted with extras including front linkage and PTO, air brakes and cab air suspension, demonstrating how far the M7-4 can be configured beyond the more straightforward Deluxe models.

Despite the added technology available at the upper end, Blersch said the underlying approach to the M7 remains centred on giving farmers a choice between simplicity and greater functionality depending on their operation.

The M7-4 is assembled at Kubota's plant in France, with major components sourced internationally, including its Japanese engine and drivetrain components from European suppliers.

The new tractors are now beginning their rollout through Kubota's Australian dealer network.
