New Case IH precision ag tool gives producers a ClearVU of their operations

Simple yet comprehensive system aims to make data management part of farmers’ day-to-day

Following several years of planning, design and field-testing, Case IH has combined map viewing software and farm management systems in a new product designed to assist farmers with the increasing complexities around running profitable and efficient farm businesses.

The precision agriculture tool, named ClearVU, was developed in partnership with AgDNA and launched at the 2018 AgQuip field days in response to a need the company identified with its customers.

“There are so many variables associated with agriculture, and a multitude of decisions farmers are faced with on a day-to-day, season-to-season basis,” said Case IH ANZ precision agriculture product manager, Andrew Kissel.

“The current drought is just one of the massive challenges being tackled by producers at the moment, and a stark example of why we as a company need to be doing all we can to help farmers with planning decisions and management strategies," he said.

“ClearVU is a way for farmers to store a huge variety of information in one place, and at the touch of a button, they can combine to get a clear picture of the current state of the business, the impact of past decisions and where future opportunities lie.”

Through ClearVU, farmers are able to obtain a plethora of information including financial information, machinery use and performance, weather charts, crop data, harvest records, and fixed/variable costs and income information via a user-friendly portal. The portal supports a range of controller types and can be accessed from a variety of devices, including via a mobile app.

Case IH's ClearVU allows data to be accessed from anywhere, on any device.

The user portal allows easy access to:

  • Maps
  • Charts, including crop types, recent rainfall, and weather forecasts
  • Activities (the likes of seeding, harvesting and tillage can be displayed in chronological order)
  • Activity calendar that allows the user to plot their movements chronologically and provides breakdowns of each task on a daily basis
  • Weather information and forecasts
  • Equipment data

ClearVU’s equipment functionality tracks fuel levels, sends guidance lines, prescriptions and offsets directly to machines from the map screen view machine metrics, and track alerts and service issues. Farmers can also use ClearVU to interact with an individual piece of machinery in the field via the portal.

Activity plans allow the user to generate specific seeding, application and harvesting plans over an entire season, with the added ability of being able to carry over previous plans to future seasons; while a Farm Financials page is designed to help grower’s general financial reports and manage profit and loss across their farm throughout multiple seasons.

“ClearVU gives farmers the edge in successfully maintaining their farm and machinery data in a way that’s easy to navigate, visually appealing and incredibly simple to master,” Kissel said.

“The beautiful thing about ClearVu, as with a lot of its other features, is you can use as much or as little of it as you like,” he added.

“So if you’re a customer who’s really pro-active and likes to be on top of your data, you can do as much as you want with it. If you’re just getting started and trying to figure out data management, you can do it a few times a year.

“So it suits operations of any size.”

Another draw card of the ClearVU is its compatibility with non Case-IH products.

“We wanted to make sure that this is a brand agnostic platform, so no matter what systems you have today, we want this to work with you,” Kissel said.

“Right now, ClearVU has full integration with MyJohnDeere and JDLink, so if you’ve got a mixed fleet of Case IH and John Deere equipment, you can actually pull that information directly from JDLink into here.

“There’s a lot more that it can do but for most customers, this is going to be a really good first step into trying to utilise some of the information that they’ve collected over the years.”
